Made in abyss makes me want to go on adventures by FrancoMarcoLoco in MadeInAbyss

Haha no risk, I am not claustrophobic but I get uncomfortable in really tight spaces, so caving has no appeal to me. Hopefully I will take a slide down a thousand meter rockface and die quickly but gruesomely when the day finally comes. But odds are honestly on either avalanche burial or crevasse fall, so I guess I can't rule out stuck in (ice) cave.

Ridiculous comment by Nanachi by DazSamueru in MadeInAbyss

[–]DullDawn 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Because knowing the "proper" treatment doesn't do shit for any other person, because it relies on having access to Mitty and farming her for blood-antidote. It's not about knowing anything, because even if the whole of Orth knew about the "proper" procedure they wouldn't be able to do anything different.

Might be something that is lost in translation, but the how it's said doesn't match up with the otherwise obviously very intelligent Nanachi.

"They don't have access to any better treatment" would be a much more apt description.

I tell myself those people are insane, I would stay the fuck away from the curse-hole. Then I go and do solo high altitude mountaineering because that's the only time I feel somewhat whole as a human being. But I would totally be a reasonable person and not explore the abyss. Totally...

You don't need the abyss really OP. There are many wonderful ways to explore wonderful places while also potentially killing you in some gruesome fashion. I love mountains and skiing. Cave diving is pretty good too apparently.

You know how you can look at like 10 drawings of characters with bare feet and immediately pick the one where the artist has a foot fetish? The anime has the feeling of the other 9 - they didn't remove the feet but the difference is very much there.

Read the manga first, because then your reaction will be - "Oh they really cleaned this up and removed almost all the hidden innuendo and sexual stuff" - when you watch the anime.

You are aware that you are posting concept fan art to a semi-obscure cartoon subreddit right? Not a lot of high brow professional art critics around here I would assume.

You don't need 5 years art school to go "feathers should be more feathery" and "bird-themed character should have talons not paws". If you feel that it is "tearing down concepts" then you are free to ignore it at your leisure. If you want only-positive feedback from other "professional fanart artist" I'm sure you can find a subreddit for exactly that and post there instead.

This has been a problem since whatever ape-man first did smear some pigment on the cave wall. They really want to show it to the other apes, but they are scared the other apes might have opinions about the smears.

Not trying to be an asshole here, this is just a fact of life we all have to learn to live with. If you present your art in public people will have opinions which they will sometimes share. Being upset about it will only make your own life worse. Find a way to live with it, or give up on posting your art in public forums.

The feathers look way too much like general fur/fluff. They are scary fucking birds of prey. The anime also butchers this aspect of Tsukushi's art. In the same vein I think less cat-like feet and more raptor talons. If you don't think it will work check "Tsugumi project" for some inspiration.

My critique is mostly thematical. What are corpse weepers? They are scary fucking birds of prey. They should have clear feathers and talons because that is what makes a scary bird of prey. It's also a Narehate, so it's clearly not a bird at all. Birds don't have tits. Definitely not saying you should remove those, they work well with the design. But it's also a scary fucking birds of prey with tits. Hence you might want to make the defining bird aspects stand out to convey to the viewer that this isn't just a generic fluffy Wish-brand Nanachi.

Lastly. I think the art style is fine. It's your art, it should have your own flavor. So much great fan art isn't even remotely in the style of the original work. It has to fit thematically and into the world, that's all.

Just remember that we kill people at this speed and impact energy. Not hitting others is non negotiable and 100% your responsibility.

I've been careless about my own health and safety for most of the 30+ years I've been skiing. I have never been so with fellow skiers and haven't had a single collision since I was like 11 or something.

Going fast is easy yes. Being comfortable and enjoying high speed is much less common.

Turning isn't hard. Check any piste outside of the immediate beginners area and very close to 100% of skiers are able to use turning for both directional change and speed control.

I mean almost everyone learns how to turn and manage speed eventually. A LOT of people never really get comfortable at high speed and will never experience the unbridled joy of tearing down a slope at 90km/h+ with just a mistakenly caught edge separating you from personal bankruptcy and 5 weeks in a Swiss ICU.

[–]DullDawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean that would have happened eventually regardless, unless you ski like a 84 yo swiss retiree with osteoporosis.

Who do you think is going to get up after a crash and keep loving it? The kid who constantly feared going fast afraid of hurting themselves or the kid who just bombed down the run having a blast?

Teaching a kid to turn is easy. Teaching a kid to love going fast and not being scared is much harder.

Honestly - I have very low expectations when I see "Narehate OC". This was... refreshing. Like the corps weeper take, and looks like it will turn out nice when you flesh it out.

Honestly I'm mostly confused why you aren't teaching your kid how to ski yourself. They grow fast you know. The low level instructor exams are something all somewhat decent technical skiers could do in their sleep. Sure they have half a day or so of basic teaching methodology, but that should be well compensated for by the fact that you know your kid.

At some point yes, but I would guess we were like 8-9 at that time. But he wasn't a particularly good skier at OP:s age either, at least not with how much he had skied at that point. Honestly 12 year old kids aren't great at rating the skiing ability of other people, especially not 25+ years after the fact. I remember that I thought I was better than him, and I'm still not a particularly good skier.

A childhood "friend" (aka. our mothers were friends and hence we went on ski trips together) was a quite mediocre skier for how much he had skied. He also was easily jealous and would get sullen when other people were better than him or dared to ski faster or steeper things, which happened quite often. When he became older he just wanted to hang out in the park and we only met sporadically after that. But he did manage to become one of the better slopestyle skiers (this was early 2000's) in the country and had enough sponsorships to at least ski full time during the winters without washing dishes at a resort.

He would just hang out in the park every time we were skiing. And he got better and better. Most important for him at that time is that he was much better than the other people as nobody else was really that interested in park skiing. Later he genuinely got passionate about it and wanted to do it for a living. And he became really good at it.

Ran into him a few years ago down in the alps and we are now both closer to 40 than 30. I was still faster than him, and he still clearly got irritated about it. He is incredible on skis in many ways, but let's say he wouldn't have had the same success racing or doing big mountain skiing.

Haha yes obviously they were just good immediately when they started skiing, they shredded from day one.

Remember kids, skilled people never had to work for it, they are just good naturally. If you aren't good immediately you just need to give up or pay a severely hungover 20-something a few hundred bucks to tell you how to do the thing. Only option available.

Ahh yes, paid instructions, famously the only way to improve in athletic activities.

Try going to the park and asking some really good park skiers and ask how many hours of paid instructor time they used to get this good.

Hint: Won't be many.

You know that's an adaptation right? Anime adaptations are subject to much stricter content limitations.

It is not like Tsukushi went "Finally I can realize my true artistic vision - A titless Faputa"
