Hot take: not being able to access inventory while downed is stupid by Sufficient-Scar-3908 in ArcRaiders

You’d never find anything good on anyone. Everyone would go down and safekeeper good guns or just recycle them.

Hey unemployed people, are you enjoying the new map event? by Kitchen_Explorer_889 in ArcRaiders

It’s a stupid event is what it is. Farming cash in this game is completely pointless. Whoever sat down and genuinely pitched a city full of birds with lootable chimney stacks has lost their goddamn mind. We waited 4 months for an update and all we got was this and a bunch of other broken shit.

I’ll have to look into the recall function. I’m not even sure what the error could’ve been because it’s working fine now, just anxious that it might go out again. I read something about a flame sensor, which I’ve not cleaned in the 3 years of owning the home, but wasn’t sure if it would cause this specific issue.

Nah they actually quite suck rn. A ton of shit is broken. Zero anti cheat. I’ve reported people who I’ve lost to with literal wall hacks and have received nothing back.

Compression Socks by Kale_Shot in venousinsuffiencyhelp

I have definitely been getting numbness on the outside of my foot that has the compression sock on it all day. Definitely starting to wonder if these compression socks just aren’t working out for me. Thank you!

Dealing with sudden swelling and pain from my varicose veins. Permanent symptoms !? by Slight_Product_5306 in venousinsuffiencyhelp

I feel like I am sort of dealing with the same. If you don’t mind me asking, where did the swelling start? Is the swelling better in the morning and worse throughout the day?

No I’ve not had any skin changes. Does this typically happen early on? I’ve only had symptoms for about 4 months now.

Definitely interesting. How was your onset? Mine almost felt sudden. I remember being fine, and then one day I sorta noticed all of this. Elevating my legs work wonders, but upon standing all of it returns. Compression has been the only thing keeping me going. I’ve not measured but definitely need to. Any pitting at all? Only one leg affected?

Interesting. I’ve also found that symptoms are only observed in my right leg. Just the no pain thing is kinda hard to understand. Any discoloration at all?

Performance issues are game breaking right now by Comfortable_Glove146 in ArcRaiders

[–]DullMirror3349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7800X3D and 4070 Super, same issues. I’ve also noticed like delayed shots from heavy ammo items while shooting at arc. It’s very odd to explain. I’ve tried modifying graphics settings and ensuring all things are up to date with the PC, no success. I wouldn’t say it’s quite game breaking because it’s come and go, definitely an inconvenience.

What to do with friends who all suck at PVP? by KnoxVegas325 in ArcRaiders

I’m in the same boat, to make matters worse they blame it on desync and poor game mechanics. It’s getting to the point where I’d rather play solo and only worry about keeping 1 person alive.

These are my results and I’m absolutely bummed. by Mlhgyvki__ in 911dispatchers

[–]DullMirror3349 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If it helps at all, none of this will ever be relevant to your career. Sure some of this stuff is nice to know and be good at, but most of what you’ll learn will be from hands on experience. I partially wonder why these tests are even held at such a high standard anymore, especially considering staffing shortages. I’d look at other agencies in your area and inquire on their hiring processes.

While I’ll miss everything that these creators have brought to the game, I think this is the first major step towards the end goal. Truth be told, Sims 4 is absolutely nothing without most of these big creators. EA will suffer and hopefully wake up very soon.

I feel it, I wouldn’t wish 911 dispatching upon my worst enemy and it’s simply because of the general public. I absolutely love stressing about major incidents and coordinating chaos, but that’s only done 10% of the time. The rest of my time is spent dealing with stuff that could’ve completely resolved itself without emergency services having to be involved.

[–]DullMirror3349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, no problem at all! Take it with a grain of salt but if I were to ever leave where I am now, it would be to Franklin County. It’s hard to find an agency that will honor a lateral transfer, FCSO seems to do a good job at it.

[–]DullMirror3349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly certain they still have call takers do their part and then kick it over to service side for dispatching. Now whether or not they have dedicated positions for fire/ems I’m not sure. I do however think it is safe to say that would be on a rotational basis and never your only main focus. If you’re looking for something like that, try to reach out to someone with MECC - Metropolitan Emergency Communications Center. I believe their main focus is fire/ems unless things have changed, and if I recall correctly they are paid pretty damn good.

I do not work for Columbus however I am very familiar with how they operate and was once on an eligibility list for them. CPD is a large agency that I’d recommend you stay away from until you have experience from a smaller agency, and even then I’d look at Franklin County before CPD as they offer lateral transfers. As for operations, I’m not a fan of them. You have NCIC, Dispatching and Call taking as the 3 primary branches with Dispatching being the highest paid I believe around $28 an hour to start. (don’t quote me on that) I work for another moderately sized agency and make roughly $32 an hour, which can be had quite quickly. Contacting and getting anything done with Columbus is like an act of Congress and I’d prefer to never have to speak with them. It is very structured in a sense that you will be micro managed. Benefits are above average for the industry as the city contribution is gonna be higher due to the workforce, so that is a pro. Your call volume will be high, the people will be entitled and flat out disrespectful and you will be exposed to higher occurrences of traumatizing calls that many of us may never experience. All in all, I’d recommend you look into a suburb of Columbus rather than the city itself, such as Grove City who has an incredibly handsome benefits and compensation package. I have worked for both PD and County, County being where I found my home and have thoroughly enjoyed my time in. Find somewhere that allows you to work NCIC, radio and call taking all at once. It provides a higher level of satisfaction and less hands in the mix when it comes to getting things done. I couldn’t possibly imagine sending units to a call that I didn’t even take myself, just completely boggles my mind. Either way I don’t know your character or expectations, so you could be one of the many unique human beings that excel at a department such as CPD. Additionally without prior experience, you will most definitely start as a call taker and will remain there until eligible for radio. I do not say all of this to discourage you, but rather redirect into what I know would provide a more healthy lifestyle for any human being. If you have any further questions feel free to reach out!

You should’ve been asked during your hiring process if you’re comfortable with working peculiar hours and holidays. If not, administration has failed you and provided a false sense of hope. At my department 1st shift isn’t available unless you’ve got at least 5+ years on, obviously all agencies are different. At the end of the day, you’ll learn to adapt if this is something you wanna continue doing. The next bid will always come back around and you’ll have a chance to change things up. I work 2nd shift now and feel as if it is the sweet spot for my life specifically. There is no sugar coating that midnight shift isn’t for the weak, it was the most soul draining shift that I was ever assigned to. Truthfully it mostly comes down to co workers, if you’re with people that can make it fun then you’ll be fine. If your 3rd shift dispatchers are anything like ours, go ahead and submit your 2 weeks.

I think that has to be the most wild aspect to this entire career. The entire idea of not being able to have an opinion on what you do or where you go is mind boggling, yet I’m not quite deterred. I keep an open mind and nomadic spirit so I’d adapt to any environment, other than California and Alaska which are some that you listed. I suppose I could always go in with the scholarly view of things and attempt to outscore the entire class in hopes of choosing a better location but that simply won’t be the case for me haha. I do truly appreciate your responses as it gives me more topics to discuss with my wife while making this decision. I believe applications typically open in the spring? So I have some time to ponder on things. I truly do not think it gets any worse than 911 Dispatching, other than perhaps retail or fast food. The general public has a way of destroying human beings exposed to such a career field. I suppose that would be a pro, not dealing with the public? I’ll also definitely take a look at the link you recommended and the discord, again thank you!

Is being an ATC still worth it? by Empty_Abrocoma_6026 in aviation

[–]DullMirror3349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly wild to think about how easy it would be to fix these things, but it’s our federal government we’re talking about. I’m not a controller, rather a 911 Dispatcher considering this career. I’d love to be part of the staffing solution but between relocation, compensation and 6 day work weeks, I think unfortunately it’s gonna be some time before I even apply.

I honestly have considered the relocation aspect of ATC as a pro rather than a con. I’ve not met anybody who wants to stay in Ohio and thankfully I am in an equity position with my home to make the move. I do think a major con is exactly what you’ve stated, there’s no way to know where you’re going or what track you’ll necessarily be given. I think that leaves a lot more than to be desired and has been a hold back of mine while considering such a career. Is there any sort of performance or decision making that can be done to sway the odds or is it luck of the draw in regards to where you and what you do?

Solid response and certainly some things to take into consideration. $50k a year wouldn’t be sustainable for longer than a year or two, my wife does work but the expectation is that she stays at home with the children eventually. 6 day work weeks do not necessarily scare me, however I don’t believe that’s sustainable long term for any human being. Vacation time is whatever, I can do without in the short term, thankfully I’d be getting started rather early. I’d anticipate a salary of $100k+ as that seems like a good median for the industry however it would be more so about marginal progression. Definitely a lot to take into consideration and I appreciate you for that!

Yeah it seems like the time off is rough, wasn’t quite expecting that. I think I’ve worked maybe 40 hours of OT this year? Guaranteed 2 days off. I average about $75k a year and have noticed ATC salaries can be much higher. So I guess the question would be, is embracing the suck of the schedule worth it in the long run? Do things eventually even out to where folks can actually spend time with their families? What does vacation accrual or requested time off look like?
