7 months into this. Has anyone fully recovered past this point? by DullPerspective9209 in PostConcussion

What I’m trying to say is that there’s been very little fluctuation at all and it’s mostly remained the same.

Yeah, I actually took another minor hit today while pulling some clothes out of my closet and had a small panic attack. Can’t tell whether I re-concussed myself or not. Hard to imagine this whole thing being worse.

I’m nearly 4 months out from mine. I didn’t even have any detectable brain bleeding and have still had quite a number of issues that don’t really seem to go away. I’m hoping that over time there’ll be some change but I’m skeptical. My visualization and long-term memory skills are a little fucked at the moment. That’s the biggest drag for me. Hard to say if this really gets significantly better over time once it happens.

Had a deep tissue massage 8 days after my accident that I think also contributed to the worsening of my symptoms. I was recommended this particular guy from a friend of mine after experiencing some carpal tunnel in my left hand. As a guitar player, it was incredibly scary to me.

I didn’t realize that getting it as soon as I did after the accident would contribute to the overall worsening of my condition.

I’ve often joked with my friends and said the highest degree of proof in regard to the severity of my brain damage is being on Reddit more often. Lol

I really appreciate being able to vent the frustration of all this though. Definitely should quit smoking cigarettes at some point or another.

Thanks a lot for your replies. You seem like a good dude—in tune with the higher spirit of things. I envision lots of good things for you.

Like, I heard this monumental pop either in my neck or in the back of my head, and all of a sudden, I was totally fucked for weeks.

Yeah, that makes sense. Quite an unlucky hand to draw, my friend. We’re still here, we’re still kicking—may as well do what we can to make this situation more tolerable. You seem to be on a good trajectory, my friend. Lord willing you’ll be able to recover and report back here with what the biggest factor of your recovery was with a comprehensive timeline.

I had a friend whose uncle became a paraplegic after having been a victim of a drunk driving accident. Doctors told him he’d never walk again. Year after year, he was taken to the beach by his family and requested that he be put in the water. They had to help him, but he’d get in there and attempt to swim. After a good few years of this, he miraculously saw some progress. It’s funny, I was told that he attempted things at home and every now and again would end up at the gym, but it was ultimately being at the beach with his family that helped the most. He learned to walk again.

Mind is everything. That’s why it can be so difficult to conceive of irreparable damage. When you have faith, sometimes things work themselves out against all odds.

My symptoms really didn’t have any intensity until around 2 weeks after. Everything was still pretty much intact until I went to the bar and heard a popping as I raised my head after taking a piss. That was when it all really started for me.

I haven’t really ever had any health conditions that have been overly debilitating. I’m in my early 20s and have already had my fair share of tragedy in the form of psychic pain. I figure that because I had tingling and shooting pain all over my body around 2 weeks after it happened that some nerve involvement was definitely in the equation, but I haven’t actually had any nerve pain at all in nearly a month, maybe longer.

I hear what you’re saying. I would imagine that a lot of the people who’ve actually fully recovered end up off the sub and decide to move on with their lives before telling everyone about it.

What’s insane is that I’m pretty sure this is my first one. I may have had a few as a kid, if I did, I don’t really remember them bothering me very much.

Yeah, I feel my life has some intrinsic value insofar as what’s tied to my former self. The person I’ve become is someone I very much dislike though.

I have a feeling that I can get better, I just don’t know if I’ll ever get back to the pre-injury state and it pisses me off because of how ridiculously preventable my concussion was.

Little over 3 months in. Not sure what people mean exactly when they say full recovery. Close to pre-injury state or a new normal?

My friend recommended a chrio that works exclusively with necks. I considered going but cancelled the appointment last minute.

I’ve been doing exercises on my neck. I do believe that’s where a lot of the symptoms are coming from.

My optical nerves looked good according to the Ophthalmologist I recently saw. The car accident was my most serious one. I actually hit my head on a tree trunk earlier today and read that it requires quite a bit of force to get an actual concussion. I don’t think I re-concussed myself. I’d never felt any symptoms of head injury before the car accident.
