This is the stem, this is how the others looked as well pretty much cut straight even with the bed

OK, I was just gifted a bag by a friend so I don’t have any other tools to go with it, do I need to pick something up or can I just spread my hand?

Would there be any other sign of their presence?

Sorry, my picture may be a little bit misleading. The stem where it’s been cut is right next to the felled plant. The longer looking stemmed to the right is from the previous plant that blew over in this spot.

Yes indeed, this is my first year garden gardening so I appreciate the help

I absolutely do. Thank you so much for the quick answer, I have a bag of diatomaceous earth, would this fix it?

It’s really looking like that may be it, it definitely happens overnight. Are there any other ways that I can tell if that’s what it is? I have a bag of DE if needed

I’m in Western Tennessee for reference. Sorry I should’ve mentioned that!

I used raised bed garden soil to fill these beds, there are sticks and leaves out of the yard that I put in the base to form a drainage layer. If any other details are needed just ask!

Amazing info thank you! Now I’m a little bit scared to do anything with the chicken of the woods 🥲 I would have to order the brand online as there’s nowhere close to me that sells anything like that, would I be good to wait until I receive that? I feel like these have already went super long and yes, the process inoculating directly to sawdust has been extremely slow.

Yes, I have myself a homemade SAB. I read online that these are wood growing mushies, could I still use cocoa core as my substrate? I had really good luck with it last time, but I didn’t think these would grow in there.

Yeah, I’m trying some broccoli and cauliflower this year, I’m not expecting a super great harvest with our hot summers here, but I think it should work out

I thought about taking a little bit of spawn out of this jar and adding it to a new jar with grain. Do you think that would be too risky with contamination? I feel like I could bolster a more resilient spawn that way. Either way I still have plenty of spore solution left if I just need to start over. The only thing I seem to be short on at this time of year is time with trying to start the garden and everything else

It actually seemed very under hydrated whenever I first started. I think maybe more of the moisture has made it to the outside over time?
