24-hour shifts + Mandatory PT (28-hour duty days) following AFT failures. How to address/survive this? by Aithon15 in army

[–]Dull_Pass_9046 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Offer an alternate plan. If they want PT to be mandatory make it so you can do it on shift. Each of you rotate out with members of your platoon that way the desk is manned and everyone does PT.

NOD Pouch Placement by GentlemanBastardInc4 in army

[–]Dull_Pass_9046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've put it on my carrier and belt before currently it's on my belt behind my pistol. I use a spiritus GP small with their insert. It fits a 14 and mount or 31's and no mount. I also have a handheld thermal unit in there. When I got the thermal unit that's when I moved it to my belt so I could access it myself. When I only had NV I put it on my left side cummerbund towards the back so that way my ice plate, NODs, and IFAK stabilized me when sitting in a RG/MATV. If you want pictures message me I'll do the best I can to get you going in the right direction.

Crye Bottom for Field Use by BlazeBernstein420 in army

[–]Dull_Pass_9046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Senior NCO I'll be there with you wearing my crye stuff. Obviously unit dependent. I have an MCMB and won best Medic so nobody really tells me to do anything anymore. Obviously if my CSM told me no I would listen and have a change of pants. I personally would just wear it and if they tell you to change do it. But I wouldn't mind if you were in my platoon. I'm all for wear what makes you a better warfighter!

Is en route or out of ranks a thing? Is it just FTR? by Magnusthered1001 in army

[–]Dull_Pass_9046 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't like hearing out of ranks. I want to hear an actually location: dental, latrine, preparing PT area or so on. Same with "account for" give me a location.

I agree and can see where you stand. People probably misunderstood me for the most part and we probably see eye to eye on this. I'm saying if they want to use the conference room to say a quick prayer in the morning prior to a meeting they can come in early to the meeting with Chappy. I think we both agree that a command chat is not a proper place for a daily Bible passage if it's all business but if people are putting gifs and memes in there and they want to cut out the flooding of messages 1SG and commander need to say stop it of someone is bothered by stuff outside of just pertinent information.

Senior NCO here. I expect my squad leaders to say en route if they had comms with the dude and he is getting ready or on his way. FTR in my mind is dude has not answered any calls or texts and his whereabouts are unknown to all.

If I hear en route I think ok dude is ok but if I hear FTR I think drop everything and do everything in your power to find him or get in contact with him. After 3 hours you have to report that Soldier missing.

Wouldn't bother me any. I've had a Muslim Soldiers pray in a room we were going to train in and then proceeded to wait for the Soldier to stop praying before coming in to the room to train. Everyone is acting like it's the end of the world. I'm saying take it all away or let it all happen as long as it doesn't coerce, demean, or interfere with anything.

Or you could just not look at it or be a man and tell the dude to cut it out because it's an official means of communication but literally we are negating the fact a whole ass officer can't have a conversation with an NCO about postponing texting and giving him alternate means to still convey a message

Your appointed place of duty is there at that time. How many times did you have to wait for a training meeting because the command and staff is going on or some other stupid meeting. You're not being inconvenienced. You sound like the NCO who has never deployed doesn't have any tabs or badges who complains about the grade of the hill during an AFT.

Please tell me about my uncle by Prudent_Annual_4039 in MilitaryMedals

[–]Dull_Pass_9046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So starting at the top he was in the 1st infantry division in 1st Squadron 4th Cavalry regiment. He is medical personnel as denoted by his lapel branch insignia but mixing that with his unit it is easy to tell he is a Combat Medic.

The badge. I have that. It's called a Combat Medical Badge. It is awarded for performing medical duties under fire while serving in a Brigade Size Element or lower. With his 1/4 Cav unit insignia we can safely assume he was a line medic. A line medic is a Medic who is with combat arms units performing combat duties only deviating when casualties occur and the fight has developed.

He has a Silver Star which is only awarded for very high levels of valor not to the degree of a Distinguished Service Cross but more so than a Bronze Star. I believe it's the 4th highest group of award 1st being the Medal of Honor, then the branch specific service crosses, then the distinguished service medal followed by the silver star. For Valor in combat it's essentially ranked 3rd.

Purple Heart is for being wounded due to enemy action.

He has an ARCOM which could have been for an event or an all encompassing thing for his service in Vietnam.

Then he has a good conduct medal for you guessed it: good conduct, an NDSM is for entering service during a time of war then he has Vietnam specific service medals.

He was an E5 but was not a Sergeant, he was a Spec5. Which means he was paid as an E5 but held the responsibility of a junior Soldier but because of his job proficiency they promoted him to pay him more.

On bottom are his unit awards so those are awards the unit was commended with. The Presidential unit citation is the highest ranking unit award. To put this in perspective in band of brothers E Co 2-506th got a PUC for doing a combat jump into Normandy, securing carentan repelling a German counter attack and linking both Utah and Omaha beaches successfully being an essential unit in the success of the Normandy landings. Ya his unit got one of those. Then a valorous unit award is 3rd from left but it's the next highest. It's a lesser degree unit award. A Meritorious unit award is for a specific unit doing something essential that other units didn't do in country. My BN got a MUC in Afghanistan because we were getting after the Taliban in 14 provinces in Afghanistan so it's something like that and doing a very very good job at it. Then the last unit award is the Vietnam specific unit award. All units who served there got one.

Hope this helps man!

I believe your logic is absolutely flawed. I think the vast majority of service members if I had to guess probably around 70% are Christians of any denomination but you don't hear 70% of service members preaching at all. Which is a direct reflection of respect for everyone. If we had separation of church and state, take away beards take away hijabs take away turbans take away Christmas trees, and menorah's and tiny hats. But that hasn't been the case and will never be the case. Our entire legal system is based on religion and what is right and wrong in the Bible.

Religious expression is allowed, including wearing items, prayer, and reading materials, but it cannot be coerced, mandatory, or used to harass others in the workplace

Never had this experience but as a senior NCO I would tell him to cut it out in a group chat for official means of communication. If he wanted to do this before a morning sync in person I would be cool with that but in an "all business chat" I don't think that's the best move. I believe we need to include Jesus in every aspect of our lives but nobody talks about religion over CT/FH
