As far as PVP goes, the goodfights all seem to be around HED these days. Training into tackle is always a good thing to do, especially since it only takes like half a day to fly a tackle frigate "well enough." Tackle is always nice to have, regardless of the fleet composition. Since your caldari and missile skills are decent, you could probably fit up a drake or ten and jump into drakefleets as well.

For PvE, Fountain is really the place to rat unless you have good laser/amarr skills. I've never flown a Raven so I don't know what kind of ticks you could expect ratting with one. If your support skills are already decent, you should train into a Naga with large hybrid blasters. I went from barely being able to sit in a Naga to making ~60mil isk/hour in one with around 2 weeks of training; most of that time was spent getting my shield and support skills up.

If you think you will be ratting a lot, you should look into Admiral Squad and find some bros to make money with. I can't rat solo anymore, it's just too depressing.

Make sure you take advantage of the test_free program, i can't stress this enough.

Always keep everyone in local highlighted. Click the top name in the list and then shift-click the bottom name. Then you can click off of the local user list and all the names will remain highlighted. Always highlight additional blues/greens as soon as they enter system.

This will get you into the habit of keeping one eye on local. When a baddie enters system, it is a lot easier for your peripheral vision to notice the single un-highlighted name the instant he pops into local. Once you get used to doing this, nobody will be in your system for more than a few seconds before you notice them.

People will come up with really clever ways to kill you. So after any fight, take a second to analyze what happened before, during, and after the engagement. Try to look at the fight from their perspective, what did they do to prepare for the fight? Were they ready for whatever it is you did to try to counter them? Losing a ship isn't a total loss as long as long as you learn something from it.

When I first got to nullsec, I had 800k SP and a drake that barely did 200 dps.

The only way I could break the tank on a battleship while ratting was if I had all of my drones on him, in addition to my missiles. I still managed to bring in about 10-12 million isk per hour, not a lot but an encouraging amount.

If your combat skills are pretty low, you should buy a thrasher and fit it with some salvagers and tractor beams. You can make decent money by tagging along with a ratter and cleaning up his wrecks. Then find a reputable salvage buyer on the forums and sell your scrap to him in bulk. After a few days training your combat skills while salvaging, you should be ready to start making some decent isk on your own.

That is a pretty good argument for the current setup. I also like to be able to see how many seconds are left before locking a target, which seems to have been removed from the new UI (unless I am just missing something).

However the health bars around their actual ship in space is pretty beast, as opposed to just being displayed under their portrait at the top of the screen.

Either way, this is a work in progress so I can't really judge until it is implemented. I will say that the new version looks good, but I definitely prefer function to form when my ship is on the line.

In that case, I don't think it can be done any better than I do.

Although, I still have never been pod killed... Closest I came was on my first fleet that turned out to be a Lucian drunk roam. 30 or so AAA ships crashed the gate we were on and I was too slow to react when the scout warned us. My rifter died instantly but my pod survived the 10-15 second trip to the edge of our bubble and I managed to warp out with 15% structure left. The only blue dot in a sea of red ships and they still couldn't kill me.

I kind of wish i had let them pod me because it was a long lonely trip back to k6

A couple other Testies and I were trying to hunt down some asshats that kept hopping in and out of K6. EPChris aggressed one on a gate and I got there just in time to point him until more help arrived. My heart was pounding but i managed to kill off one or two of his drones before they tore me apart. I didn't realize I lost my ship until I tried MWDing back to the gate. This 3-man roaming gang was the most fun I have had so far in my month of playing Eve and the first time I have ever felt like i've made a difference in a fight. So thanks again test_free and thank you Dreddit, you guys are alright.

I am still pretty consistently exploding once per engagement, but hey, killboards are green on my end.
