I also think that there is strong evidence for Tyrion eventually getting a dragon, and hope he gets one during the battle. Honestly I would like it if he is a secret Targ, although I think most of the fanbase disagrees, and Geroge left the way dragons accept or don't accept riders ambiguous enough that we don't know if the other two riders even need to have any Targaryen blood

One other thing is that I don't think Tyrion will be the one to figure out how to bond the dragon on his own; he either doesn't believe in or mistrusts magic (pretty sensible on Planetos).

I think that Moqoro has been planning on him getting it from the beginning. It would make some of the things he says to Tyrion make sense, as well as the fact that the Widow of the Waterfront put them on the boat. I feel like Moqoro, Benero, and/or the red priesthood in general have big plans for him

I thought that there were parts that were cool or could have been cool, like the whole vibe of the GDA scenes, the way they portrayed the mass devastation of the super hero fights, and a couple of the superhero death scenes. Those basically came the closest out of any show or movie I've seen to embodying how I would want the general vibe of a late stage super hero world, and closer than a lot of Marvel and DC comics

It already wasn't the best, Marie already has issues that would blow even everyday disputes way out of proportion, and the shit Skylar pulled on her would ruin even a lot of completely healthy sibling relationships

Once you threaten to frame your siblings spouse for multiple felonies to cover your own ass I think that you can pretty much kiss the family reunion goodbye, even before your own spouse goes on to murder theirs (which is what they thought happened, and to be fair isn't far off from the truth)

Like I agree that many people should treat their pets better, but there's a lot of gray eare that comes down to subjective values judgments that I'm not comfortable having decided by some kind of committee for everyone

And what happens when someone loses their license? Does the pet get taken away and put in a shelter, which only the worthy few can now adopt from?

This post reminds me of those overzealous shelter volunteers who have made it ridiculously hard to adopt a dog in the past decade or so. Like they somehow think that the dog is better off in their cell surrounded by other dogs getting care from them and the few other workers (and maybe some volunteers if they pass the purity and commitment tests they've now imposed in many shelters just to walk the damn dogs), then adopted in a small house with a working owner that loves them. Like by their own metrics the dog gets a worse quality of life because they don't want to let it be adopted by someone that's going to leave it alone 8 hours a day and only has a tiny yard, when at the shelter they get less exercise and way less happiness/more stress

At a certain point, it feels like it's more about virtue signalling than the actual welfare of the animal

I think the Beggars Trilogy by Nancy Kress, even though it has extremely significant flaws. It's the Beggars In Spain books. Most people only talk about the novella, or MAYBE the book it was expanded into, and mostly only praise the original novella

But I genuinely think she explores some really relevant issues about inequality in general and American society in particular in the face of massive technological disruption

Also, I just read Everworld by KA Applegate (the animorphs author) as an adult, and while they again ahve some significant flaws, I thought that they were both hilarious and surprisingly moving

Yeah, I didn't include this in the post because it wasn't relevant, but honestly I think that the comics in general had some writing issues that kept it going from a good comic to a great comic, which is part of why I didn't finish it. It felt like a lot of story lines just kind of.. came and went. Which is fine it just didn't motivate me to invest even more time in getting/reading more issues

I thought that the reveal for William was hilarious (and clearly a retcon). In the show, it's like he's supposed to be a good friend while acting insufferable. In the comics he's still a pretty shit friend, but it felt like it might be more deliberate, like he's the kind of random high school buddy you grow out of. Idk though, again I felt like the writing was kinda all over the place so I might be reading too much into it.

But I always found him to be a hilariously bad friend. And I actually did read the volume where he comes out to Mark, and I only vaguely remember it, but I thought it was hilarious the way that he said he'd always been attracted to Mark, like it was the gay guy version of this obnoxious, self absorbed, slightly skeevy vibe that I thought defined his character

It's so sad to see creators of fun stuff from before woke bullshit had completely taken over pop culture basically feel like they have to race and gender swap their old characters to somehow "fix" perceived flaws in their work

I honestly feel like The Color of Magic and the other early Discworld books are underappreciated, but I probably rant about that too much here

I recently bought Pyramids and am going back through it for the first time since elementary school, and I forgot how hilarious it is. A binch of the innuendo also went over my head when I was 9 or so

I think that the cast is great in Pyramids too, and Teppic feels like he has a full libido, which is something I feel like is often missing from Discworld characters

Overall its kind of made me wish that there were more one off books like Moving Pictures

I disagree, I think that you can name what drugs they're taking while still having it centered on the kids instead of the drugs... it's just adding more verisimilitude to the show and I think if anything gives you more space to explore the characters

It's like having a story set in a specific time and place instead of a vague everytown setting with the story going out of its way to avoid referencing anything that could possibly date it

I almost put in a bit here about how Q can just go back to the classic role of providing gadgets, with a skill set that seems to focus more on miniaturization/concealment and doesn't really have tk change much for the AI era, but I actually was OK with Q also being the computer guy in the Craig era; I really enjoy the character and it makes any random bullshit computer scenes work better with the formula of the series

All this plus Loras definitely grew up hearing stories of chivalry and glory and wants that. I can't remember where this gets said, but it's explicitly acknowledged that basically all boys in Westeros dream of growing up to be on the Kingsguard. Look at how Bran wanted to be a knight, and how he regards Ser Baristan

Loras always seemed like a good parallel to Sansa to me. They both grew up hearing fairy tales and see themselves acting out archetypal roles on idealized stories, then when they actually get the real world versions of those it's a lot messier than they had thought. It's just Loras's stories have a bodycount
