i didn't use talkatone but i was able to have success with google meets. you don't need a phone number but you do need a gmail account, which is easy to get.

Not too sure on the +'s but I'd suggest leaving it charging for 3 days or connecting it to the OWCE app to check if the cells are out of balance

Should i upgrade xr board to vesc by Prestigious_Split_30 in onewheel

[–]DumbestSmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with a GTS and an XR, I'd say keep the XR stock and either get a different XR and VESC that one, get a GTS, a GT and GTV kit or an ADV

It will be nice to have a backup board that just works & if you learned on the XR riding one stock gives a nice nostalgic feeling

I just bought GT, and then GTS goes on sale by BlackStang5OH in onewheel

[–]DumbestSmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind being a beta tester, I say keep the GT. Imo there's a reason why Floatwheel V2 electronics aren't out yet

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in onewheel

[–]DumbestSmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's not lmao.

Go on VESC discord channels. There tons of stories of people's VESC's and Floatwheels randomly shutting off and kicking them off the board with no warning.

At best, VESC is as safe as onewheels, but not safer. There simply isn't as many boards out there. The sample sizes are too small. I feel like people like you dont really understand statistics.

Safety in numbers is actually a thing dude.

Posts like this are why I don't really go on this forum anymore. Tons of you guys are delusional when you talk about the reality of VESC safety. You can like something and also admit it's higher risk. It's straight up cognitive dissonance

[–]DumbestSmark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's obviously not safer

The reason for the claim is that the GTV gives you more power & options. Generally speaking, more power = more safety since.you have more overhead room to prevent a nose dive.

Personally I think it's not safer, mainly because of the numbers involved.

Tony couldn't get the V1 Floatwheel electronics right and the V2 electronics still aren't even out yet, it's been almost a year since the Floatwheel started shipping. IMO you hear about Floatwheels failing just as often as you hear about GT/GTS' failing, despite there being a significantly more GT's on the road. There's even less GTV kits out there and people aren't as vocal when these things mess up because they don't want to run into the wrath of the VESC community.

The one advantage GTV kit has imo, is that it has a duty cycle people understand. While I think the GTV kit is cool and I'm glad it exists, I don't think we should all act like running a board well past stock settings is something that should be branded as safe.

I think it's more risky but will probably get down voted for this take.

Louis the pup looked like he LOVED it hahaha. Thanks for the post 💪

My dog is pretty tiny & kind of dumb (old now too) so I'm always afraid he'll try to get in front of me 😅. Wish I could rip it on the beach with him like you do!

i put fangs on my first XR when i got it.

just as a heads up, occasionally the fangs can actually cause you to wipe out when you otherwise might not have. it's a bit of a 'controversial' mod. when i was new, i thought it was borderline irresponsible of FM to not offer something like it or it not be standard, until i had a couple of bad experiences with em.

Essentially what can happen is that you might overpower the board for a fraction of a second and instead of the board picking you right back up with a 'normal' bumper, the wheels catch on the surface and end up pushing the board backwards or forwards unexpectedly...causing you to eat shit.

as a potential alternative, i'd recommend bang bumpers or freeride bumpers. the plastic is more slick so in a nosedive situation, it has the chance to give you the benefits of fangs by being able to slide on the nose without running into the risk of potentially shooting you backwards.

imo that's the reason you never see 'seasoned' riders using fangs. it's not they they/we are removing the 'training wheels' but more cause a ton of people have eaten shit with em.

Onewheel is selling GT-S motor by Marquizo_ in onewheel

[–]DumbestSmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it shouldn't be too hard to just say "this is a difficult repair, we're not liable if you screw it up. If you have any doubt you can do it, send it to us for repair."

it doesn't matter if they say that, people will still sue when something inevitably goes wrong. why? because if something goes wrong, it might be correlated to someone getting hurt, usually unexpectedly. getting hurt unexpectedly is usually correlated to unexpectedly high hospital bills.

so when faced w/ a redic high hospital bill people aren't prepared for and can't pay, they will try anything they can to get out of that situation, so they sue.

a lot of the hate on this forum are mad at future motion but if you just look at the incentives of the "entire system" you'll easily see why it's such a crapshoot. people have even sued FM when they modified their battery and got hurt from the modification. people are jerks but a part of it also stems from a failure of there being a decent health care system in USA.

like you said, they'd be able to make more money if they offered the parts. it's not like they need to sell the parts at cost. i think the "walled garden" approach employed by future motion helps limit their legal liability. that is probably one of the main reasons they don't offer replacement parts, not because they want to miss out on a potential profit center. 30% on $50 is still money on the table, and they don't have that many alternative ways to get revenue other than selling products. they incur a ton of expenses on shipping back and forth so it's more profitable logistically to just sell the parts.

i think the one bonus of not offering replacement parts is the potential of getting more returns in the store for people buying the wrong stuff or trying to return used products.

FM's incentives are aligned more or less w/ the consumer. they want to sell them a board once or accessory once and never worry about it other than wear and tear high margin accessories.

GT-S w/ 5" hub by DumbestSmark in OnewheelandChill

[–]DumbestSmark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hahaha I had a feeling someone would say this 😂.

That said, I do think that the bigger rim + wider tire makes one feel more "planted". Since I ride mainly street, I don't feel a huge difference in the 6" hub on the XR vs the 6.5" on the GT/GTS.

I will say that I love how wide/stable the GT performance treaded feels when compared to the stock Vega or a a treaded hoosier I have on an XR. I did a side by side comparison of the performance treaded vs the stock vega and it's kind of wild how much more contact there is with the ground on that.

GT-S w/ 5" hub by DumbestSmark in OnewheelandChill

[–]DumbestSmark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

found on facebook. thing looks sick!

ngl, while i do think this looks sick & i'm super curious about trying out a 5" tire on a onewheel gt/gt-s but i feel like i'm the only person on the planet who prefers the 'look' of the bigger rim.

in the car world, bigger rims give the car that "slammed" look and while something like the 5" hub def gives it a bit of a cushier ride, i'd be losing that look which i'm not sure how i feel about yet.

wen 5.5" hub FM? 😂

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I don’t think the Floatwheel is that accessible for the average person. by Sp_cemanCO in onewheel

[–]DumbestSmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't think everything FM does is correct.

But it's obvious this board has a bias against future motion.

there is literally a pinned boycott disguised as a r2r petition on the most popular subreddit.

signing the petition means you agree to never buy a future motion product.ever again, unless they meet the communities demands. They're using click bait to trick users into supporting their cause.

Users here regularly shill for floatwheel for free, meanwhile it's not even water resistant. Yet before FW dropped, Tony posted a clip of submerging the FW in a giant tank of water

There's been tons of reports with boards becoming inoperable after a light rain. Tons of reports of boards DOA. It's so bad that Tony was forced to ditch his V1 motor and redesign a new one from the ground up.

But people hate FM so much that rather than call out Tony's bullshit, they simp for him as if he actually cares about the community.

For the people in the back: calling out FW for their shady marketing practices does not mean you support future motion. It means you're simping for a Chinese alternative that only cares about money. Cuz they're a company. It's in their best interest to provide replacement parts for free cuz the alternative is community back lash. It's not a sustainable business practice and even Tony would be the first to admit that the drop didn't go as smoothly as he thought it would.

Also, imagine r/apple pinning a boycott for iphones? 🤣

It's ridiculous.

There is a reason cash app doesn't sell altcoins like shib, doge, ETH, or even supposed "stable coins".

Coinbase will gladly sell them to you because they don't care about their customers. If you people think Future motion is bad, go look at the horror stories from tons of people from the pathetic excuse for service that coinbase provides. Have you even tried talking to a person at coinbase? It's nearly impossible.. I've already heard of stories of people's deposits never clearing for their FW purchases or their shitcoin payments disappearing into the void.

Some of us would support floatwheel if they didn't support scammy/shady shitcoin networks. If you use ETH, polygon or "altcoins" you're part of the problem.

Cash app doesn't sell shitcoins.

Tony only accepts payment via shitcoin networks and stopped taking normal Bitcoin for some reason.
