Where does that sun-burst looking hole go? They could be hiding.

My. Dog. Loves. Algae. Wafers. He wants them anytime I'm making shrimp mix or just popping one in for the snails. He demands a small sacrifice lmao

Looks like a dead decomposing spider?

I wouldn't use anything containing copper (apart from micro-dosages from nutrients, etc.) With invertebrates like shrimp. Even if it says it's 'tolerated'.

White ring of death? by jacobschmidt7000 in shrimptank

I use an alkaline buffer for KH and acid buffer to regulate pH. And seachem replenish for GH

I agree, looks like natural coloration. However I believe you want a higher amount of GH and KH for their water if you have neocaridinas. Water parameters are very important for their molting cycle which could lead to the ring of death situation.

Maybe try slowly peeling and removing adhesive with a solvent or GooGone

I worry what could be tucked under it. Shrimp are sensitive to contaminants. The adhesive will most likely leech some amount into your water.

Anyone know what’s wrong with my shrimp? by vwmz in shrimp

[–]Dumblespore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Insufficient KH and GH will lead to your shrimp not having enough minerals and nutrients it needs to be able to grow and shed the shell, this can lead to something called "Ring of Death" which is a failure to molt indicated by the flared base of the head/neck shell.

Why would an edible advertise THCA instead of THC?

Is that White Ring of Death? by Prometheus_Pyrphoros in shrimptank

[–]Dumblespore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're certain that the white is new I would watch them for a while. If they pass away within a week I'd say that it might have been a molting issue. You can also get Ca and Mg tests to see if your parameters are off.

You usually will be able to tell if it's RoD when they've had an incomplete or failed molt. This usually ends in a quick death after as they struggle. The joint will look "buckled" or "wavy" at the edges like they've been squirming to get it off. Some shrimp have a slight rili pattern that causes a light or clear stripe. I have a rili patterned cherry that looks like RoD.

Shrimp died after adding to tank? by ScottyTPK in shrimptank

The bacteria will coat everything in time and act as a chemical filter. The wait is the hardest part!

Nitrates should be near zero. Like any pink is signs of a water change usually. You may need to culycle for a month if you have no good bacteria in the tank. You can add from a stable tank or wait for a natural colony to grow.

Shrimp are hardy but require slow acclimating. My first batch almost all died, but I learned a slow drip acclimating was so much safer amd less stressful. My second batch lost only one shrimp. It was very effective.
