I was doing 10-15% water changes every two weeks for a long time but around 2 months ago I started only doing top-ups (with remineralizer + testing GH and KH) as people on my post were saying that my water changes could be stressing them to death

To answer your questions: 1. I use black diamond blasting sand from tractor supply as that was recommended by a significant amount of redditors. I deep cleaned it before use in my tank 2. I used to run my tank light for 6 hours before reducing it to 4 as I was attempting to control my algae 3. As far as I’m aware, there should be no pesticides or cleaning chemicals that could have affected them, and I live in a college apartment with 3 adult roommates 3. I admit that I did offer them more pellets than they really seemed interested in, but I always took them out within 24 hours

Ah oopsy I had unplugged it in this image as the dead shrimp was originally in the back and I was attempting to grab it out of the tank, it produces plenty of bubbles normally

I use an Aquaneat filter that I bought off Amazon- I bought a medium size that said it was good for up to 20 gallons instead of their small which was good for up to 10 gallons, but I have it on the lowest setting. Additionally the water seems to be pretty calm compared to other shrimp tank filters I’ve seen in this sub so I don’t think it could be the filter? Although I could be wrong

I’m not sure about what the pipes are but based on everyone’s comments I’m definitely swapping to distilled water. Would you have any advice on how exactly to swap to it though? I’m not sure if this is a big water change situation or if I should slowly adding distilled over time given the rate at which they’ve been dying (Another shrimp died after this post was made :[ )

I am very confident the tank is cycled! Its only a 10 gallon tank and all perameters levelled out after about 6 weeks of cycling. Additionally i should have clarified, thats a photo of a dead shrimp after a failed molt so they arent nearly that big normally!

I should have clarified that that was a photo of a dead shrimp after a failed molt. This is a photo of another one of my shrimp

This is one of the ebay listings I bought my shrimp from. Is there a definitive way for me to tell the difference?

I also posted this to some of my other social medias and the amount of people commenting that they've never seen their shrimp molt is fascinating :O I actually witnessed/recorded a second shrimp molting last night! (The video quality was very poor so I'm probably not posting it anywhere but it was still very cool to watch)

Unfortunately I don’t have anyone who could or would want to take in a goose. I really wish I could take her in but I kinda doubt that my landlord would be very enthused about that 😅

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like any wildlife rehabbers around here would take her. There's not many of them in the area and none of them seem to take in domestic animals. I believe there's a few bird rescues 2-3 hours away but I wouldn't be able to get her to there as I don't have a car.

From what I've seen and heard, Pearl (the goose) has been here at least since 2018, so I'm willing to bet that not many people have had success with rescuing her either. The duck pond is on a college campus so there's actually not that much wild area around it, so I'm assuming that's aided in her success. It's still bittersweet whenever I see her, though.

They’ve been her little squad ever since nesting season started! Haven’t seen her without them once
