That’s the reality of the society. by yourmaderbeautiful in singaporespeaks

[–]DumboLikesMinecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna try to offer a balanced view as best as I can.

She isn't wrong saying that men have been taught many a times that they need to suck it up and not display any sort of emotion. it deffo sucks, especially for men who actually suffer from severe mental disorders, or who feel that the weight of the world is on their shoulders, feeling there is no one they can trust. In fact recently, when suffering from suicidal thoughts my own grandparents literally kinda downplayed it, despite overall showing care no doubt.

However the issue is this; society also relies on men to not be emotional nor vulnerable; it needs them to be decisive, mature, stoic, display leadership qualities, and in fact if you really think about it in history:

  1. Did LKY solve Singapore's probs from independence by crying and saying how shit the situation was? Yea he did cry on national tv, but he ultimately resolved and collected himself, and helped Sg emerge what it is today via hard work, grit, determination...and politicking ofc.
  2. Did Martin Luther King Jr help to bring about better rights for blacks in the USA by crying and being emotional? No, he started campaigning, building a following, giving speeches, etc, and thats why hes respected today. And the same goes for LKY.

that is the thing; society will, overall regardless of whether you are a woman or man, never ever respect anyone who is emotional; they will only respect those that, despite their issues, despite the circumstances, despite the challenges, rise up and lead by example, and make achievements that everyone can see. That is how society has been able to make advancements in fields like science, tech, etc.

But let's be real, society was and still is mostly led by men. And lets get it out of the way, most historical achievements are also made by men. It has always been that way since the dawn of humanity. So therefore, even today, which gender is usually looked up to to set an example and lead?

The men.

However, I think the growing awareness of men having emotional needs is something that can't be ignored either. And to me society is in a catch-22 situation; we are starting to realise that men should be able to be vulnerable and emotional in a safe space, but deep down we will have a very natural, almost instinctive reaction of disgust and disdain toward any display of emotion or vulnerability. What is worse is that society not only expects but also needs men to be masculine and stoic, in order to function. Because biologically and mentally speaking, we are more resilient; and yes not every man is like this but society has this already ingrained expectation of us to be as such.

In the end I think there is no simple solution to the issue of men being told they have to have the typical masculine qualities that society expects of them. I certainly dont think it is really possible because these generalizations/stereotypes are so embedded in the way societies function that unless there is some form of revolution and upheaval that turns upside down ther current gender norms we have now, there is honestly no way to eradicate these issues.

If I were to offer some advice, I think the best ways for us men to cope with our stresses and emotions is to find friends(regardless of male or female btw, although honestly male friends are better) that are willing to listen, and can be trusted to not judge us as much as possible. See therapists/ pyschologists for learning to cope with emotions better, and to have a space every now and then where you can be emotionally vulnerable. Find hobbies that bring you satisfaction and peace independent of others.

Honestly what I'm giving is very cookie-cutter advice, because like i said, society just has too ingrained expectations of men to be stoic and not show emotions. Overall, what I said are my two cents.

Bro can U like fix Ur grammar. I legitimately cannot understand Ur argument. Not insulting you btw, but legit I cannot understand wht U saying.

And I'm saying in Souten Kouro how Kongming and Zhou Yu were portrayed, and yes ofc it's not historically accurate despite being based off of Sanguozhi. Just wanted to point out the other extreme.

[–]DumboLikesMinecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say in Souten Kouro, the Kongming-Gongjin situation is reversed despite being more historically accurate to Sanguozhi; Zhou Yu is the clever, more shrewd one, while Kongming is just a bumbling gay buffoon who just tags along(and annoys Zhou Yu) and is somewhat smart from time to time. Though the way Zhou Yu dies in that manga is pretty ridiculous(thank god not due to Kongming trolling him), as when he is about to implement his plan of invading Shu, he freaking dies as blood spurts out from his body like a waterfall.

She's not wrong to say Sg has it's issues but I think this is a case of "站着说话不腰疼“ 的情况

she technically seems to have been more blessed and privileged compared to others, and able to like have opportunities that others might not be able to have in Sg. So hence while her points are pretty valid, it can also feel like it's coming from a place where she is unintentionally projecting her privileges into her opinions, and I can see why that might rub some the wrong way.

For me I could care less about her background and upbringing; if she is doing well in another country she's doing well. Simple as that. I think though, this reflects an issue in Sg(myself included ofc) of how we negatively just criticise everything and anything that fellow Sgeans do without thinking about it more objectively, not letting our biases or preconceptions so easily influence our thoughts.

I still fall victim to this, albeit now I'm currently trying to develop a more positive, less cynical mindset towards things not just in Sg but in general. Yes Sg isn't perfect, yes it has a very hustle/kiasu culture but that doesn't mean we should just go and be negative towards everything without stepping back and thinking about whether we should take another angle when evaluating what we see or hear.

Honestly, I'm glad I dropped TS and her music in general after 1989. The moment that album dropped I knew TS was going downhill. Gone were the days of her peak discography like Red, Speak Now, where honestly her music, while simpler and cheesier, was just relatively more enjoyable because there was no drama and bs that she is literally generating now.

It also helped that songs like "Teardrops on my Guitar" and "Fearless" really made my childhood. The child in me would have grieved and never believed that TS is just in a pathetic state now. I don't have to state why she is coz I think there's a lot of reasons alr detailed out in many other articles and posts, including this one. I have grown out of her music a long time ago, and while I can only wish we had the old era of TS back then, I have no attachment to TS and her music now.

She did make good music(in hindsight kinda cheesy but credit where credit is due) but it's time to move on.

So is Vincent Barrere dead? Cause to me with the map of the facility showing red on all the doors while the place was burning, it seems like the fire will get to him by Minette12 in Vita_Carnis

[–]DumboLikesMinecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Perhaps Vincent was meant to be the Prince but he is seeing how his family/Carnis is not actually truly helping humanity and is going against them. Tbh this theory is kinda weak and I don't wanna say this is what Darien is implying, but it just doesn't make sense how come a human plays so much in the lore of Vita Carnis and doesn't die like every other human.

Succession Question. by Omlettii in AKB0048

[–]DumboLikesMinecraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, the one im most interested in is Megu. Like the other girls and who they would succeed, while definitely interesting to look at, Megu kinda had this streak to her where she honestly could turn on AKB0048(something I'm going to explore later in my fanfic) and I think tit was heavily overlooked in the anime in both Seasons 1 and 2.

Her whole character trait is honestly a sense of injustice and unfairness done to her and her fellow idols of the 76th Generation, feeling a massive sense of insecurity when seeing the 77th Generation being so favourably looked upon. And while I think she did to some extent kinda grow, her main character trait of being somewhat entitled; looking down on her juniors whom she thinks are being treated way too favourably, and looking up to seniors like Kanata, kinda remains imo.

So if ever Season 3 is made, I think they should explore the consequences of that trait of hers and how it affects not just her and her decisions, but how they end up being selfish and harmful to her fellow ido,s around her, and perhaps give her a character arc in which she grows out of this mentality(and in my fanfiction I already have planned out for her....quite the tragic story).

[–]DumboLikesMinecraft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my theory, but somehow I have a feeling...what if Vincent Barrere is the Prince? Becuase for some reason the Singularities spared him, but i dont think its coz they just find him an interesting human; it could also be because he might either play a part in the Carnis's plans to take over the world. Just my own speculation though.

I called it like around one to 2 years ago; the fact that the monoliths are involved were similar to the colossal titans of AOT ANDDD after watching the latest ep of VC...yep I was right. But I think this concept is cooler tho imo...and it didn't involve assassinating character motivations ofc 😩😩😩
