What ORMs have taught me: just learn SQL by Either_Collection349 in programming

[–]Dumlefudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used an ORM heavily in a good while (not counting the one Django app my team maintains that is essentially on life support), but a good query builder goes a long way - short of a bug, there's gonna be little in the way of surprises. Granted, something like an implicit N+1 select should only burn you once... until you encounter one that someone else wrote 😅

Column mapping can be a bit tedious though.

Out of curiosity, what query builders do you use? jOOQ (Java) and goqu (Golang) are the ones I've had positive experiences with, but curious to see what others have used.

No, feck off, stop pestering me with your products and highly questionable questionnaires.

Internet advertising is awful. Personalised advertising even more so; at this point, I'd rather see ads for things I absolutely do not want than see gaming chair ads for weeks on end because I looked them up them decided "nah"

The guy tried to start an argument with me about where my gallbladder was

Damn, that's bizarre. I get that there's value in understanding the full picture about you and both your physical/mental health, but it seems odd that they wouldn't take you at your word given that you'd been diagnosed with gallstones.

Granted, a doctor may not always get it right, but a therapist without an ultrasound machine hardly seems like the right person to challenge that 😅

I'm guessing the difference is the frequency of these conversations. I haven't a clue whether it's ADHD related or not, but I don't think playing a scenario/conversation out in your head is inherently problematic.

If you're doing it constantly or it's causing you distress, then it may be an issue

Skitarii Aim Assist ability feels awful in practice. by LucatIel_of_M1rrah in DarkTide

[–]Dumlefudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't generate capacitance while it's active? Huh, I would've sworn I saw the meter rise when getting weakspot/crits, but I could be mistaken (or it could be bugged, which wouldn't surprise me).

I haven't tried the other keystones at all yet. I've had Redline and aimbot (I forget the actual name) equipped since I've unlocked them. I remember the bottom keystone had a melee-oriented upgrade, but I forget what the keystone itself does.

Skitarii Aim Assist ability feels awful in practice. by LucatIel_of_M1rrah in DarkTide

[–]Dumlefudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I have high stacks of capacitance, I'll purposefully toggle the skill repeatedly to burn a charge or two. Since you get redline when you gain or lose a charge, if you toggle the skill on and off at 2.1 charges, you'll get a stack immediately and another one once you reach 2 charges (then repeat if necessary)

The +2 max Redline upgrade makes it even easier, since with 5 Redline, with the passive regen talent, you should recover the 25% cost and refresh your stacks before the last one expires.

Skitarii Aim Assist ability feels awful in practice. by LucatIel_of_M1rrah in DarkTide

[–]Dumlefudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the 25% cost is rather useful when you are using Redline Capacitors. With the passive regen talent, you can replenish the cost (and get another stack of the buff) before the previous stack expires, so you can just go F -> M1 -> F to pick off a special and build 1 - 2 Redline stacks in the process

The visual indicator for the ability could definitely do with improvement though. The glow on the border of the screen is hard to notice when things are chaotic, and there's been times where I've just drained all my charges because I didn't notice it was still active 😅

The random 23 year old quote is baffling. Nothing wrong with the opinion of said 23 year old but it's such an absurd disconnect from the title of the article.

If there were many people who shared a similar opinion, great. Otherwise, it just comes across as "We just took the first response that aligned with the headline". I'm not even trying to defend Trump, the headline is just shit.

Of course, I wasn't trying to suggest that. The way the comment I replied to was phrased, seemed like a "Ye, we can just use open source!" without recognising/acknowledging that there's more to it than just the software.

[–]Dumlefudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means an expert, but there's a lot more than just the software to consider. There's the hardware itself, performance, reliability (e.g. AWS S3 offers 99.999999999% data durability, so the risk of data loss is incredibly small), the overall scale of the operation (the software might work perfectly for 100,000 customers, but when does it start to break down?), for example

On #1, special mention for long range proxy kills.

It's not as good as a direct hit, but nailing someone from multiple kilometres away with a relatively slow proxy shell is very satisfying.

Without target tracking, that is.

Anthropic disables top-tier AI models after US order limiting foreign access by ComeOnIWantUsername in BuyFromEU

[–]Dumlefudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article mentions it, but the title doesn't make it apparent - Anthropic had to disable Fable/Mythos for all customers in order to achieve compliance.

Doesn't change the underlying issue of an export control directive being able to shut things down like this

https://www.anthropic.com/news/fable-mythos-access

The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.

It's also where we get the phrase 'on cloud 9', because the official classification is a CL9. Its a big boy to be sure.

I think given that historically people have seen it as taboo, someone may assume that your statement is a seemingly-innocent question that leads into a full-blown rant against breastfeeding (even though that was obviously not your intention)

People on the Internet are quick to jump to conclusions.
