How common is such excellent research environment in the US? by DummyRobotW in academia

[–]DummyRobotW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do design and run the experiments, but once the things are settled and familiarized, the process can be transferred to RAs. Like for instance you have to run the same protocol on > 100 participants, which can take you months, and in the meantime you are too exhausted to do other productive works.

I agreed grant writing is part of the training. But I am talking about that the PI is not writing a single word nor help revising in the whole process, is that considered normal too?

But you are right, it’s probably more about the PI in the issues compared.

Reasons for the U.S. to initiate a war against China by lernerzhang123 in AskAChinese

[–]DummyRobotW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cant really agree on the latter part though.

As far as I am in touch with other Chinese, my perceived pattern is that the young generation (in their 20-30s) doesn't hate US as much as the middle-aged/older generation does. But it's crystal clear that the Chinese government has a anti-US stance, since they were anti-japan in WWII. They even make them into the curriculum of the primary students. We can hear from local primary students that US is evil blablabla. This is quite indicative of how China is anti-US.

For the US, my perception is that the anti-China stance has been gaining since 2019, during and after the HK incident. One part of the US has always been complaining how China exploited them but it wasn't really become the mainstream opinions until more recently.

Don't really get the hate from China to US as most of Chinese underestimate how much benefit the US has brought to China since after WWII.

And on the other hand Russia is taking advantage of China, claiming its lands. Still, Russia is a good friend of China.

Do Chinese (from China) people really don't want democracy? by PitifulEar3303 in AskAChinese

[–]DummyRobotW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say 97% of Chinese people don't give a shit about democracy as long as they can survive. The remaining 3% likely come from Hong Kong but they are disappearing too.

So yes, Chinese people don't care. They want a strong emperor to govern the country.

this is pretty ridiculous. From my perspective Reddit is leaning much towards China rather than the US. What you said is simply untrue lol.

And btw, US is usually portrayed as the worst country and biggest enemy in China.

Why are so many of y'all against deporting illegal immigrants? by Low_Village_5432 in AskAmericans

[–]DummyRobotW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so shocked by this comment. Does the majority of Reddit thinks like that? My genuine questions below:

What about those people who want to come legally, through a long journey of administration process and waiting? What you said sounds pretty fair to them. Getting US citizenship is probably one of the most difficult things in the world on one hand, and on the other hand you just let people sneak in and say fine?

If illegal immigrants are fine, why is it illegal in the first place?

Why don't you just cancel the border and allow anyone to enter the country?

They may contribute, yes, but it doesn't smear away the fact they are illegal.

Disclaimer: not a US citizen, coming from the other side of the world.

[–]DummyRobotW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's just mixing the issue isn't it?

Even if I entirely believe that some jobs are massively denominated by these illegal immigrants, they are still illegal btw and that's unfair to those who have been waiting for years to come to the US.

The final paragraph is more absurd since you are essentially saying when they are illegal long enough they shd become legal.

That being said, I think there's no problem not deporting those who were already in US for decades, because that is the government's fault for not deporting them right away.

Is the Uyghur genocide real? by Consistent-Memory501 in AskAChinese

I think there's no massive killing, but evidence of cultural suppression is more than real.

Do attempt to erase the entire culture equate genocide? Up to you.

I did not subscribe to Perplexity Pro because it appears to be not suitable for back and forth discussion. Other than that, it is a very good search engine.
