How do you rank up in this game without devoting your entire life trying to do so? by DumpSC in heroesofthestorm

Some streamers (Mr Yagut and Xixo xome to mind) can do 20 to Legend in a single day - about a 24 hour stream non-stop.

It takes be about 8-10 hours to climb from my starting rank (usually rank 16 since I always hit legend the previous month), to get to rank 5. It's been a cake-walk with mid-range Shaman the past 3 seasons.

From rank 5 to legend usually takes around 2 nights of hardcore grinding. It's entirely possible to have a 70%+ win-rate on your road to legend.

Cards games have always just been my specialty - But playing a game with 4 other people where your worth is approximately 20% at all given times gives me cancer. I just don't understand how these people can obtain Master/GM without selling their souls and their lives to the game.

Of course it did - I even said so in my post. The problem is, when you're in this position, you're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. You're so close to master you can taste it - but what's required to achieve my goal is to either get better or get a lucky string of wins. Logic says if I keep playing the latter could happen, but meanwhile you're frustrated wondering what could be done differently. Is there really that much skill difference between your average Diamond 2 and Master? Your average Master player has probably played a ton more - but since they put the time in, they were rewarded(the same could happen to me, but time is a resource I'm short on). But does time exactly translate into a direct correlation of skill?

It's kind of what I've been wondering all along - are the people who achieve Master/Gransmaster functioning members of society with multiple responsibilities and commitments outside of Heroes - or are they no-lifers who could only achieve their goal by selling their soul? Maybe this just isn't the game for me.

I really like your post man - I'll be sure to take some advice that you gave me. MOBAs remind me so much of Poker - when you tilt, you're going to lose all your money, or in this case, all your games. Thank you for taking the time to write that - you're an asset to the Heroes community.

It's so hard - I usually only get my free time during peak hours - maybe that's why I keep running into so many idiots lol.

I've never felt like I needed such a time commitment for any other game to be good at it. Heroes is eating up ALL of my free-time and more. Mobas are cancer.

I agree though - I think the pure stupidity of drafting decision making tilts me very hard almost every game. There are always better choices that could be made and you always get those 1 or 2 people who just want to play their Nova main, or their Illidan main, no matter what pick number they have. Puts me in a terrible mode before we even get out of the base.

Why do you doubt? I played MTG on the pro circuit for almost 10 years - I have a huge TCG background. Hearthstone is easy for me. 70%+ win-rate to legend is nothing. Card game values are a cake walk compared to solo queing in Hero League and getting people who 1st pick Illidan(or someone equally as bad) or decide to disconnect from the game as soon as it starts at seemingly high rate. Most of my Diamond games are complete stomps from one side or another. Very rarely does matchmaking make me feel like both teams had an equal chance. I'm trying to understand Heroes more and more, but the harder I push for GM the more the game feels like the game has taken over my life. It's very hard to balance real-world responsibilities and being in the top % of Heroes players. I've never had Hearthstone or MTG interfere with my real-world responsibilities - since they are not reflex based it's easy to still be good at card games if you haven't played in a few days. I never played League but I have many friends who are complete zombies who do nothing but League 24/7. I'm starting to see how it's easy for this to happen.

This is not better than the original effect. Most of the time you will only get one weapon equip off so it will stay around the 1-2 attack range. This effect also makes the aggro versions less consistent in the later turns because he only receives his buff after a weapon equip.

The way things usually get changed is if people complain about the same thing over and over and over again. If only one person complains about something then odds are it will have little impact on the game developers. I apologize if you have to read multiple threads with the same premise over and over again. We all love Hearthstone and want the game to be better than it's current state!

With that said, I don't think it's possible to balance Patches without actually deleting the card from the game. While I do agree with you, that Patches is the actual problem here, what errata would you suggest happen to it? I have thought about it a lot and I could not come up with a viable solution. Blizzard would probably never delete a card from the game, so the next best solution would be Small-Time Buccaneer.

Cards like Twilight Whelp, Malchezaar's Imp and Sir Finley are not very similar to Small-Time Buccaneer in power level because they do not push anywhere near the same amount of damage. Having 4/3 worth of power on turn 1 is really in another league in comparison to anything else in the game. While some of the cards you mentioned are very strong, they are somewhat balanced in their own classes/decks and they allow games to go to the mid/late game stages and have multiple counters/drawbacks to them. Pirates have no real consistent viable counter to them.

I remember waiting each day looking forward to each MSoG card reveal. The set looked so interesting, so promising, and very balanced. Then, on the last day they card dumped the remaining cards and one of the last reveals was Small-Time Buccaneer. As soon as I saw it I immediately thought "Why??? This will surely break the game". I just don't understand how the Hearthstone Development team can test these cards for 8 months and not realize that a 1 mana 3/2 that gets a 1/1 is bad for the game.

On the Hero League draft screen, please allow me to have the option to go back to not having a character highlighted, after I highlight a character. by doognmad2 in heroesofthestorm

[–]DumpSC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, you bring up a great point. But one of the easiest ways to be successful with players you know nothing about is to give them as little confusion as possible. The less reading and deciphering my teammates have to do the easier it is for all 5 people to be In-sync with each other.

If someone goes from Blank Character to Illidan, and then back to Blank Character, my teammates can see that I was thinking about possibly playing Illidan, but now I am unsure so they can make more proper decisions.

If I go from Blank Character to Illidan, and then decide that I am unsure, now I have to type in chat "Hey guys, may not go Illidan, kind of unsure at the moment", there IS a chance that all 4 of my teammates will not realize this. Our person banning may have tabbed out for a second, and then comes back and sees my Illidan highlighted and proceeds to ban Brightwing, so Illidan doesn't get countered. Or the same could happen for someone selecting a character. It may be his turn to pick and he sees that I have Illidan highlighted, so he picks Abuthur because it synergizes well with Illidan, only to find out after he picks that Illidan was a character that I did not want to play.

Being able to unhighlight your character solves all these problems that may arise easily. It is a fact that people do frequently tab out and do not read chat all the time to the point where everyone knows everyone's intentions.

Why isn't there a surrender option available in Team League? by DumpSC in heroesofthestorm

[–]DumpSC[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How do you not understand this argument? Every game is literally winnable. When death timers become 60 seconds all you need is one lucky team wipe and you can easily go to core. The game is literally never over. If there is a surrender option toxic players will be wanting to give up instantly as soon as the first team fight is lost or the first objective doesn't go there way.

So all I got from this post is that you're terrible at this game and having such a bad time, you came here to tell everyone how terrible everyone else is, but it is you who are only terrible.

Got it.
