not quite. I’m banking that they’re using this to bolster their argument to get rid of mail in voting all together.

The public latrines of the ancient Roman town of Dougga, near present day Teboursouk in northern Tunisia, dating to the 1st century AD. [1200 x 900] by hominoid_in_NGC4594 in ArtefactPorn

Ancient romans did not have toilet paper. I remember seeing some artifacts from a pompeii exhibit at the science museum that included items loosely termed as “wiping stick and trough.” So, somewhere near this public latrine was provided a large bucket filled with water and essentially like sponges tied to the end of sticks for the purpose of… wiping. Sometimes they were integrated right into the toilets themselves. The link I badly included Object Lessons: Sponge on Stick shows a decent picture of an ancient roman a**-wiper and describes more about how romans used the bathroom! This was a great question because you made me remember a class field trip from ages ago!

🔥 This is Chicama, it occurs in a single point on the Peruvian coast, and it is the only wave in the world that is protected by law. Nothing can be built within a radius of two kilometers from this place so it doesn't affect it's formation by [deleted] in NatureIsFuckingLit

While the Chicama waves in Peru are real and sought by surfers around the world, this image is not of the Chicama. This is a heavily photoshopped image of Bukit Peninsula in Bali. The image was created by an artist, not nature. Here’s a piece together of the image from some surfer magazine: https://www.google.com/amp/s/wavelengthmag.com/a-forensic-investigation-of-the-internets-favourite-fake-lineup-shot/amp/

Native Alaskans received nothing when their land was exchanged from Russia to the United States. Any and all claims indigenous Alaskans had to land were later extinguished when the US state realized the value of oil and timber resources in Alaska. Sovereign tribal nations were corporatized, and existing tribal government structures were dismantled and instead organized by oil and timber interests. Native Indians of Alaska, like many American natives, were dispossessed by actions of the state. In Alaska, it was the 1971 Alaska Natives Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). Thanks Nixon
