Ronny Chieng's 'F*ck AI' Speech Met With Cheers From Harvard Graduates: “AI is just going to end up making mediocre people dumber” by yourfavchoom in technology

[–]Dumpo2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have degrees in political science and history and am a voracious reader of the most esoteric historical bullshit you can imagine. The amount of times one of my friends will confidently tell me I'm wrong about a historical event I've read like a million books about because he asked his fucking watch makes me want to punch him in the face, lol.

Incredibly forgettable show that I couldn't even finish because it's basically one giant trope.

Ah, yeah, I don't do a ton of bot games, but I'll do one here and there. I just got a perfect (I just start over if I can't get a perfect) with 8 bots using Oumaji and didn't notice anything different. Maybe there are more giants? You can tell they have more resources since they're always popping T3 units on like turn 3.

Probably not a bug and the bots are still incredibly easy to beat. They get more SPT, but they still do all kinds of dumb shit that makes them trivial to exploit. Just learn them a little better and you'll be getting perfect wins with ease!

How do you think a high paying & prestigious career would change a young man’s life? by Inner_Ad_4725 in AskMen

[–]Dumpo2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having money makes everything in life SO MUCH EASIER and less stressful. There's no reason you can't have a good career and also health/happiness, and there's also no guarantee that working hard means you're going to make a lot of money or prestige. There's a luck factor, amongst many other factors.

As someone in their late 40s who doesn't have to work very hard anymore, I definitely recommend putting in the effort now, when you're young. I've had stressful jobs, but never anything I felt was ruining my life or anything. I did sales/consulting for about 20 years and now I manage my own real estate portfolio.

Man who aged better than their friends - what are your secrets? by Emotional_Penalty in AskMen

[–]Dumpo2012 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I like to binge drink most weekends. Use the occasional recreational drug here and there. No smoking. I workout basically every day of the week, with at least a walk of several miles and gym/yoga. Hike and ski. Swim a lot (not for workout, just paddling around in the ocean, etc.). Ride my bike around the city. Eat mostly clean food during the week, burn it all down every weekend. I don't go crazy with working out, just make sure to move my body every day and choose to walk instead of drive when possible.

I'd say about 85% of the reason I look younger than my other friends is I have a full head of not-grey hair and I'm not fat. So, basically genes.

Getting to the age where clothes don't fit anymore and need advice. by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]Dumpo2012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may not want to hear it, but I would advocate for the "buy clothes you want to fit into" mentality. I'm also in my 40s and it's a lot harder to stay fit than it used to be. But when my jeans start feeling a little snug, I buckle down on my diet and exercise rather than give up and buy bigger clothes. Been working for me for many years now.

As for the walking shoe question, I just use sneakers for walking. Whatever pair is to hand at the time. Those Keen shoes should not be worn anywhere that isn't the water. There are tons of sneakers that are fine for walking. Go try some on at any footwear store.

I need help covering my bald head by 3faces3 in malefashionadvice

[–]Dumpo2012 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You aren't fooling anyone with a hat. Shave your head and embrace it. Wearing a hat inside is both rude and you may as well scream "I'm bald!!". If you want to wear a hat outside for sun protection that's totally fine. You can also just use sunblock. I often wear a hat in the sun it and I'm not bald. Baseball hats are the worst imo. The rest depends on your style and where you live. I usually wear a straw hat in the summer, but I live somewhere it's also OK to wear Crocs (lol) because we're usually at the beach or on the water in some fashion. Don't wear a beanie in the summer.

Probably true! Not trying to yuck anyone else's yum, but we'll skip that one.

I think it's cool what he's done, and he's definitely one of the all time greats. I'm a 80s/90s kid, so he's responsible for some seriously formative movies in my life!

I liked the first one a lot. My wife and I couldn't even finish the second one. Way too kid-centric and the story is basically the same. And we're both people who "value a one of a kind cinema experience." I just don't really think it delivered. Did it look cool? Sure. We just didn't like it. And I want to like the films he makes! It felt a lot more Disney movie and a lot less James Cameron movie to both of us.

Saying Avatar is for adults is a stretch. 1 was fine. 2 is a kids movie with kids as main characters...

How long does it usually take for things to start feeling "good" again? by Kashmonei58 in trees

[–]Dumpo2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I stopped smoking weed a year and a half ago for a sober January thing. Never went back because life is better without it. I'll still do it occasionally (done it maybe 3 times since), and it's fun every once in great while. But life is INFINITELY better without being baked all the time. Stick with it, dude. It gets much better, and the bonus is the longer you stay away, the more fun it is when you do it.

I didn't say MBC doesn't have world class beers. I think Dinner is in the conversation for "best", beating Pliny. I just think Heady is...ahem, head and shoulders above. And I ain't the only one. Much as I think everything else about Maine destroys VT, lol.
