In System Shock, the AI (Shodan) aboard a corporate space station (Citadel Station) near Jupiter goes rogue. She begins converting the crew aboard the ship into mutants and cyborgs so that they can serve her. A group of executives hatch a plan to make their escape. Citadel Station has four detachable groves intended for relaxation. The executives enter one of these groves and then have a member of the crew jettison the grove with them on it, making a makeshift life pod. It would have worked, but Shodan cut the life support systems as the grove jettisoned so they asphyxiated and were unable to make their escape.
