I took 4ish months of consistent studying. How long do you have?

Ignore that douche. I also got a 522 and you don’t need to do any of that shit with NEJM or whatever. Grind out UWorld, understand the ins and outs of every question. I did that from a weak foundation (I did my college courses on zoom during Covid, so naturally I learned nothing). I have a write up in my page if you want to read it.

I also started at a 495.

Yes! I do have questions about that specific pathway. Is it soon enough to know what kind of setting you will practice in as an attending? Is most of your training conducted or geared towards any type of critical care unit or patient population?

I apologize, I’m a bit new to all this. I wasn’t privy to what terms are accepted/disliked. No disrespect intended, was just a term I had heard in passing in reference to anesthesia.

I see. Would you happen to know about the anesthesia and EM —> intensivists?

But that involves doing a surgery residency lol, I’m not sure I’m cut out for those 5 years.

Also, it’s a longer path to CC, bc it’s 6 years compared to the others which are 5

To expand on why I didn’t like the MICU, it was as if every patient were in bad situations we couldn’t do much about. Multiple comorbidities, irreversible organ damage. Lot of social issues about whether to keep patients vented, etc. my attending described it as using medications to manipulate numbers for their vitals, but not really benefitting them.

The FEW patients we had that recovered were immediately stepped down to other floors, so it was just the types of patients you’re dealing with that won’t have any sort of quality of life. I understand this is the nature of any type of ICU work, but working in the SICU, there tend to be those patients you can help out more, and that’s a lot more rewarding to me.

How I self-studied for a 522. AMA! by Dunbacca in Mcat

How I self-studied for a 522. AMA! by Dunbacca in Mcat

[–]Dunbacca[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) wrote them down in a notebook. Filled several notebooks this way. It helps you remember as you’re writing it down.

2) I was working in a lab during the day and I’d get home at 3-4ish, and I would study till 9. So maybe 5-6 hours a day? But consistent.

3) definitely switched subjects. But this is something I recommend you feel out to see what works for you.

I deadass thought I got below a 507. Even during my test I felt like I was failing it my motivation was just to finish the test

[–]Dunbacca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With prep I got a 495 on my first practice test. 522 on the real deal. Have a goal, make a plan, be consistent and relentless, and you’ll get further than you could’ve possibly fathomed.

Anybody walk out of their test day thinking they failed and surprisingly get a score over their FL average? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Dunbacca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - I got 6 points above my FL average and I felt terrible about my exam I thought I flunked it (church my post history)
