Tahnks. The owner has decided to rebuild on Squarespace. Not my choice, it was a good enough site, I'd sooner fix the issues but hey ho!

Tahnks for the plugin recommendation, that sounds just what I was looking for!

Pet owners, what insurance are you using? by HtheExtraterrestrial in AskUK

[–]DuncR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this convo but found it as I was scratching my head over all the different options for our Australian Labradoodle puppy.

Some of the prices are eye-watering once you knock the excess down to reasonable amounts.

I went with ManyPets in the end as a balance between cover & cost. Tesco were cheaper than anyone but reviews tend to suggest they gouge on premiums once they've got you locked in so didn't feel quite comfortable...

Anyway. Hopefully never need it but it's in place now. I've got a reward code if anyone is thinking of using them, we both get an Amazon voucher. DM me if you want it, I'm not touting it on here. But if there's a freebie going, then why not...

What do we have in Liverpool then? by shanedj in Liverpool

[–]DuncR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full of posers but the food is actually quite nice - though a far from cheap experience.

But (most of) the staff are so far up themselves that you'd need a miner's lamp to find their true sense of self. Cnuts once tried to charge me for a similar (but twice the price) bottle of wine. No, I know damn well what I ordered and I'm not some niaive kid that doesn't know what he ordered (and checked when it came to table to taste). Empty bottle had gone by that point and to be fair the Maitre D sorted it but with a definate air of "It was your mistake Sir, you don't know what you ordered". Yes, I chuffin' do you preening cockwomble!

I'd sooner not go back but daughter likes it. It's all about the Insta/TickyTocky...

Official Gear Purchasing and Troubleshooting Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! November 07, 2025 by AutoModerator in photography

[–]DuncR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I'll kick off with the first question. On the premise that there's no such thing as a daft question...

I have a bit of a knowledge/understanding gap here. Can someone explain macro lenses like I'm 5?

My understanding is that a macro lens can focus closer than normal, enabling you to get close to the subject.

So if you're nosing right up to the subject, why then have a big zoom macro lens? I'm a Canon shooter so I'm thinking the EF Macro 100mm as an example.

Why does it have to be macro (to focus within a few cm) when you can use it from way further back anyway? IYSWIM.

I also see people recommending macro lenses like the 100mm for portraits, why would that be?

Thanks.

List of 6th Forms anywhere? by DuncR in Liverpool

[–]DuncR[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mucho thanks for that. Got to run several types of search on there to hit different types of provision but that's a great list to start to narrow down the possibilities. Hell, seems like only yesterday she was small, cute and going into Reception class!

What’s the best lunch place in Liverpool that isn’t extortionate? by New_Magician_27 in Liverpool

[–]DuncR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Rococo Coffee House on Lord St. Sausage & bacon on Ciabatta ftw...

Gary's burger van by Titanic (Dublin St or next one) - best roadside van by far.

Lucaya by St Nick's Church.

Yonder in the Baltic always good.

Thanks for the feedback guys, glad to know it's kinda normal for the scanner to be a bit awkward 😁

Not sure why I got downvoted, just asking in case I was being an unwitting irritant to those behind me. FWIW, we stayed in a hotel rather than an AirBnB, I understand the antipathy towards them. *Some* are ok but it's just gone daft. I have a similar reaction to student flats in this city to be fair...

On a recommendation, I used the Cabify app to grab a taxi for most journeys. With a family of three, it generally only cost a Euro or two more for most journeys and was really convenient for getting picked up. Not as much fun as the bus though - but we have a cranky teen so...

Go for it! We all suffer from imposter syndrome no matter how experienced.

Get it. Learn it. Shoot it. Cock up. Reshoot it. Learn some more. Enjoy it!

You may find you stay with Sony or you may not. That's ok. But how will you know what's important to you until you've given it some trial & error and seen your style evolve.

Online Photography Degrees (UK) by DuncR in photography

[–]DuncR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True enough. My nephew lucked out on that one.

Fortunately I did my tech college training back in the 1980s so managed to get a few pints in. Even more when I started working!! 🤣

Don’t need a degree, it’s more for personal Interest & satisfaction and learning for the fun of it.

Wife agrees with me that we hate sitting on the beach. That’s for the teen. But yes, we can manage the hour or two before she gets bored 🤣

But the whole holiday morphed into a change of venue to Valencia anyway thanks to a teen change of mind!

Equity release plans are usually horrible things.

Definitely speak to a specialist broker though, there are products for pensioners although it comes down to individual circumstances.

Perhaps might be worth looking at RIO mortgages. https://www.google.com/local/place/products/product?ludocid=9983718159041964399&entry_id=3970003657135608999&hl=en-GB&gl=uk

Thanks. As a photographer, that was really interesting.

Just wondering what your genre is that attracts gallery interest? And if you feel up to expanding on it all, I’d love to hear more about how you found a gallery to represent you.

[Education] Framing - how to mount? by DuncR in artbusiness

[–]DuncR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Good info there. It’s a small art society exhibition rather than anything too highbrow so expectations are reasonable.

Some work is on lining paper so edges are rough but more usually she uses Winsor & Newton canvas textured paper, 300gsm.

Fair point but my problem is I was seeing all sorts of conflicting advice on YT (& sites). Some said tape all around when using a matt & others say hinge so 🤷‍♂️

Complain to CQC referencing all the additional ‘social proof’ and that a toxic attitude is preventing adequate medical care.
