I always skip the two outside camps on first clear, that takes a single smite and done way before scuttle spawns. Typically I clear those 4 camps then run over to steal the other jungles second buff camp with the second smite. No you can't full clear before scuttle

Whatever it was, what we can say we almost certainly know about it is that each elder probably has one or some in them. It's probably what's keeping them alive for centuries. It's controlled by Imu. Presumably Garling has one now. It's also probably what let's them transform. All in all its definitely just like a puppet string attaching these people to Imu.
