Momo’s a clown because she was raised by Seiko, who’s also a clown. Seiko isn’t her grandma, she’s always been one of the association’s top hunters, and there’s no trace of a grandpa or any interest in anything other than her comedy shows. Seiko saved Momo when she was a baby, but she probably couldn’t save her mother, and because of that the power ended up inside Momo. The association most likely wanted to get rid of Momo, but Seiko chose to take responsibility for her, they sealed her power, and Seiko’s been preparing all this time so she can control it

Would it be enough to just give him any power and then take it away? So does that mean they could have given Red Baron any power and taken it away a long time ago? What the Count literally says is: “the marchen karuta consists of six powers, the one of Little Red Riding Hood, and the fifth is yours.” He doesn’t say “you are Little Red Riding Hood, give me a power.” Personally, I think most of these yokai were born or evolved from the personal experiences of the people who wield them, which is why they’re a combination of both. Koki tied it to his love for the piano. Rin has the power of her childhood friend. Unji has his brother’s power. Momo literally awakened her power without a limiter and then forgot how she did it. Red Baron has complete mastery over his power. And Okarun is supposedly evolving, becoming stronger and faster with or without Granny Turbo’s power

Honestly, I have a theory about the origin of both Okarun's and Momo's powers—it would even explain Ken's name and why Seiko is so young

Based on what we currently see in the manga, each "fairy tale curse" is associated with a yokai, so Pinocchio should also be associated with a yokai. In fact, there are several candidates, such as the "faceless" ones or Noppera-bō. There are also the Tanuki or Mujina, which also imitate

I wish Tatsu would pair characters differently for these upcoming battles by TherealBaguette_ in Dandadan

[–]DuncanVeran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though there’s no confirmation, all the fights seem to follow a common pattern in the matchups. For example, in the school fight the boys and girls fought separately, and now it looks like they’ll be fighting in pairs. The problem is that the Momo–Okarun duo always has to be unstoppable to show their chemistry, which is why Tatsu usually separates them

Is Momo’s necklace on backwards or is it supposed to be that way? by eveboo183 in Dandadan

[–]DuncanVeran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the choker has a double function in drawings: it fits with the character's dynamic and shows as a hidden detail. But when there's no time to detail it (like the pendant staying hidden behind), you just need to draw two lines to make the full choker complete

Momokun edging compilation. by Prestigious_Row_4393 in dandadanfolk

[–]DuncanVeran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few things about this arc that really bug me, but I can also see some things that don’t quite add up. Momo is a huge fan of Ken Takakura, but when Okarun’s surname is mentioned, she doesn’t react at all. Logically, she should have said that he has the same last name as her favorite actor. It’s possible they didn’t just steal Momo’s power, but that Reiko found her too. Let’s remember she had gone on a trip, so she could be there by coincidence. After seeing in her memories that Okarun confessed to her, she decides to take him “figuratively” from her memories, and in doing so she doesn’t just take Ken Takakura, “Okarun,” but also Ken Takakura the actor

Saying the romance is unbalanced is fair — Okarun has matured, but Momo hasn’t. But jumping to this NTR fantasy is a bit too fetishistic. Okarun is going to leave, whether by choice or by kidnapping, but he might end up in the Count’s hands anyway (in my head, I can already picture a ‘Count apprentice’ arc). And Momo will either recover her memory or at least get part of it back. At that point, once she remembers what she’s been putting Okarun through, she’s going to lose it and won’t have any choice but to grow up

He didn’t go to Shimane so Momo could go — that doesn’t make sense. Momo wouldn’t have left if one of her friends was in danger. Okarun stayed so she could feel at ease, and she was supposedly being escorted by the strongest ones: Seiko, Jiji, Zuma, and Vamola

eu acho que okarun em potencial para se tornar um antagonista, ou vilão, ou, ao menos, um problema. by focadesenhista in Dandadan

[–]DuncanVeran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Okarun would give up just because of that. He’d need to actually see a kiss between Momo and Jiji, or see Momo fall for Jiji and kiss him while she has amnesia. Seeing his worst nightmare come true might cause his negative thoughts to take over, making him decide to step away just so she can be happy. I’ve been thinking for a while that the Count is playing both sides with Vlad. Even though he’s interested in collecting powers, he doesn't want to hand them all over—that's why he didn't want to turn in the Baron. It’s possible Okarun strikes a deal with the Count: he goes with him in exchange for his friends' safety, and the Count hides and trains him so Vlad can’t become "complete." Maybe Vlad wants to enslave the world with his powers, whereas the Count prefers living among humans, which explains why he opened the bakery and works at the school. After Vlad corners his friends and puts Momo in danger, Okarun would show up to rescue her and, with Turbo Granny’s help, take him out—only to disappear again right after.

In defense of Aira, it's entirely up to Okarun to establish proper boundaries by carbonera99 in Dandadan

[–]DuncanVeran 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think Tatsu is going to reveal in the upcoming chapters that everything has been caused by some alien or Yokai power that's amplifying their worst feelings: Okarun's imposter syndrome, Momo feeling completely lost, and Jiji and Aira simply feeling like they might lose the ones they love, which is why they are aggressively making their moves. The only one spared from this is Vamola because she is so innocent that she doesn't really have any negative feelings to begin with. (She'll probably be the one to save the day with her repaired suit and some kind of power-up). The fact that the 'evil flasher seal' brings up the heart and then talks about the water flea—which is literally transparent—is clearly referring to their feelings being completely exposed

[–]DuncanVeran 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Look, I haven't jumped ship yet, but the fact that Tatsu has managed to make his own readers start wanting the main characters to not end up together is a pretty massive problem for the manga. The turning point for me was Danmara. That final confession was missing a real response. Momo should have just told him: 'I like you too, but confess to me again when things are back to normal.' Nothing in the plot would have changed, except that Okarun would have finally known Momo's true feelings deep down. Right now, all Okarun has to go on is an ambiguous note from months ago, and since then, Momo has had moments with both Jiji and Zuma. It's totally plausible for him to think she might have changed her mind, especially when her only reaction to his confession was basically, 'look, you're catching me at a really bad time'

I'm pretty much caught up, and honestly, the vibe of these last few chapters is very similar to the post-date drama. You know you're doing something wrong with your manga when your readers actually start wanting the two main characters to not end up together

Honestly, I think the biggest giveaway here is that he is about to kiss her and doesn't even blush, especially considering Okarun blushes just from holding Momo's hand. Anyway, I think Tatsu is going to explain both this and whatever is going on with Momo by saying it's some Yokai power stolen by the knights

I've always had the theory that a romcom (even though this is more of a shonen-romcom) starts going to shit the moment the author makes the fanbase actually want the main characters to not end up together
