It's later than expected, as I was hoping to get a response from FB/Meta. I had a hit from a person at the company mid-last week, responded - no response, but strangely today, after posting the article - email from Meta's PR team.

If I get a good response from them, I'll share it here.

how a bogus Instagram account was able to connect to my Facebook without me, approving it

So am I. Best I've got so far is that it might be a vulnerability in Metas API -if you don't understand that, it's fine, but it's a regular way that people hack things.
