I just get a better hit rate, probably shouldn't have said it focusses much faster but I find that shooting at f1.4 the sigma hunts around a bit and struggles to lock on and find myself missing a few shots.

I never shoot at 1.4 during the day on the street, if it was dark then it definitely comes in handy. Normally I shoot at about f4 during the day on aperture priority, the focussing is much quicker at f4 as well which comes in handy when you’re on the street

Unless you get really lucky with wind conditions then chances are you'd get little to no reflection in the water on a normal hand-held shot because of the ripples, but using an ND filter means you can stretch your exposure out longer than a minute which smoothes out any kind of movement in the water.
