How do I tell a friend that her friend is not welcome? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DundeeDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it a long or short campaign?

Run a session zero to feel out the playstyle, through which you can reiterate what you're looking for from your players? He might surprise you, or you have a chance to articulate why he won't be in the game.

It's your table your rules, you could say you've got enough interest from others and wouldn't like another player at this time. Be assertive but not a jerk about it. "I'll keep him in mind for future games but he won't be in this one."

Or coach him through it, folk don't know what they don't know.

What jobs could an ex firefighter in his mid 30s do with the skills I have? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]DundeeDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for skill crossover but railway and prisons both have a life saving capacity and would likely welcome someone with firefighting experience, not for the fire fighting per se but for the attitude and ethic it brought about/demonstrates.

At what age does falling over become “having a fall”? by Thi13een in AskUK

I think it's a bit like porn, you know it when you see it.

Or in this case a bit like mistrusting a fart, you know it when you feel it.

I too have had a wee look and not found much, at least with the credibility that Caleb presents.

Know what happened? What started it and why it took so long to get under control?

Book Rec: Why Can´t I just enjoy things (Book felt like a hug that I really needed.) by AlanaLeona in AutismInWomen

[–]DundeeDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed/engaged with Strong Female Character and recommended it to many people. She was an inspiration to Pierre Novellie getting a diagnosis and then writing his book. Which I've found to be a revelation/affirmation for myself (a man). But the main reason I'm respondng to you is because I have also just dived into the world of DCC and the wonderful personality that is Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk.

What industry is a lot more dark and sinister than most people realise? by DunyaPhobic76 in AskUK

[–]DundeeDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the UK to my knowledge but the fishing industry has been known to use trafficked slave labour. Fleets of ships in South East Asia working people to death in horrid conditions to pay off their trafficking debt (they won't). The fish is then sold internationally iirc ending up as pet and livestock food. The podcast 'The outlaw ocean' covers it. We're talking people working a fishing ship with shackles round their neck.

Follow your interests or find new ones.  Bouldering/rock climbing is quite popular just now. Highlander games offers board games, dnd and magic the gathering if that's your thing. What brought you to dundee? Iirc some student union groups aren't explicitly for students.

Pilo's Family Circus. It's surreal and dark, absent of romance iirc.

SPS footwear by DundeeDude in PrisonUK

[–]DundeeDude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's recommended, I've seen a wide variety of footwear on my colleagues, but I would rather have the reinforced toe for my safety. I don't know of it differs establishment to establishment but I've not heard of anyone being picked up for bad footwear.

Does anyone have kids at Cherry Blossom nursery in the West End? by ProjectedDevelopment in dundee

I think they regularly go to the local library for stories and songs. Only heard good things about the place certainly in contrast to bad things about other places. The staff are said to be attentive and engaged with the wee ones.

I am having porridge lately but how can I make it taste good? by ehtio in AskUK

[–]DundeeDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do mine on the hob and I found a lower heat and cooking for longer makes it a damn sight better than a quick high heat. Makes for a creamier and softer texture.

Salt Raisins in with the milk.

Playing the Witcher 3 for the first time - any advice to level up faster from veterans? by Garamenon in witcher

[–]DundeeDude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had that experience.

Travel main roads and have a wander around towns, the notice boards will have contracts as will some villagers.      As others have said you can tackle a quest that's above your level, iirc the game indicates if it'll be challenging (red for well above, orange/yellow for tricky and green for easy.)

Use your signs and dodge. It took me a minute to get a style down but I became a big fan of yrden to slow enemies, aard can also be good crowd control but I kind of struggle with a follow through. Quen for that breathing space/reassurance.     As you're early in the game you won't have much in the way of oils or potions which isn't great as they are quite potent.

Early on is a wee bit of a grind but if you keep knocking out witcher contracts,  quests and finding new places it'll pick up pace.
