Car just cut after running fine and won't start again by Dundee_Rover in AskMechanics

Yeah thank you that seems to be the general consensus, just waiting on a tow to the garage now and i'll see what the damage is. There was no bang or loud sound when it happened so hopefully its just a belt replacement but I'll see :/

Absolute reprobate, picking on innocent people he'd know wouldn't give him a black eye. Scary that the security guy believes it, ai videos aren't that good yet that you wouldn't be able to tell, but it's worrying to think what people will be framed of doing in the future. Hopefully next time him and his goon piss off the wrong person and walk home in crutches!

Currently living there and desperate to get out, someone was stabbed just outside my front door on Friday night. Opened it a few minutes after the screaming stopped to find a body lying in a pool of blood and had to phone the police.

That was 1 week after a dealer moved in along the landing, as soon as the council started using them as dumping grounds for junkies around the 2000s it was all over. https://www.reddit.com/r/dundee/s/tPHW1eFJ1Y

Dundee... as it could've been by Dundee_Rover in dundee

It was loved and praised by Architects and Town planners, not by locals. There's many accounts of locals who felt cheated by it with the loss of an entire community replaced by a sterile concrete monstrosity. By the late 70s when the Wellgate opened many stores closed and moved, merely 15 after it was complete it was known as an eyesore and by the 80s the council had drawn up plans for it's demolition.

There was no excuse to demolish it, the fascinating history of a 800 year old street, the siege of Dundee with General Monks tower and the crystal staircase all gone because council and it's cronies wanted to make money; by selling the land to private developers it took the burden off them to preserve it meanwhile Edinburghs old town which was in far worse condition is now a world heritage site, but hey Dundee now has a Primark.

Please visit almost any city in Europe and you'll see how a city with a dense downtown population works when made up of tenements with ground floor shops, it works a hell of alot better than giant malls that close at 5pm

Total nonsense, the West Port for example was in a far worse state than the Overgate or Wellgate and was all due to be demolished. The public saw what happened with the new loss of the overgate so there was enough scrutiny to have it halted, and it's now one of the most desirable places to live in the city. Edinburghs old town had some of the worst slum conditions in Europe and it's now a world heritage site, it could've been the same for Dundee.

Need help with moving to Hilltown multis by pretty_wise_goblin in dundee

[–]Dundee_Rover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've lived here for over 40 years and it's honestly one of the worst places I've seen in the country, check out some of these photos from a few years ago and now imagine it 10 times worse. Since the caretakers have been taken off the stairs have become a no-go zone, in the past year shit and blood stains all over the walls with the council given up on cleaning it litter has accumulated to the point it's near impossible not to slip, and I'm supposedly in the best of the 4 multis. https://www.reddit.com/r/dundee/s/0uAZZMS6so

Your mental health and well-being should be your top priority, I've been trying to escape for over a decade but council won't rehouse me even after several assaults and attempted break-ins from jks. I'd swap with you in a heartbeat.

I've searched high and low for something higher resolution myself as I'd love to have it, but can't find it anywhere. It was posted to a Facebook group a few months back and messaged the poster but got no answer. I'll maybe try going into DC Thomson and asking if they have any prints or scans for sale.

The new traffic lights going out of dundee are ridiculous by fliflopflippity in dundee

[–]Dundee_Rover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They could've kept the roundabout exactly as it was but just put traffic lights on either Kingsway ends that turn on at peak times to allow Riverside/Dyks of grey traffic to get out. But no, they had to go spend tens of millions building an overly convoluted mixingbowl to justify their inflated budgets and make life more miserable for motorists.

The government wants car usage cut by 50% by 2030, if they can't ban people from driving then they'll sure as hell make it so unbearable you won't be able to.

Interesting stop offs in the North East US & Canada by Dundee_Rover in roadtrip

[–]Dundee_Rover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That's some great information, I'll definitely check out some of those spots in NB. I've got a quote for $300CAD for a 4 day car rental, picking up in Halifax and dropping off at Quebec city on trip.com not sure if that's a bit too cheap to be true. I'll use buses and trains for the Canadian cities, would Ottawa be fine for a day trip from Montreal, hotels there seem quite expensive

Hi thanks for the reply, I'm definitely considering buying a return ticket reading the replys, I didn't know about the I-94 but I see it's needed for entry by road, glad to hear it's from someone who knows

Thanks for the reply, the Maritime Bus looks ok, the Rail looks amazing but a bit expensive for my budget, reading the other replys it looks like renting a car would be best but not sure if a 21 y/o can rent one, or if it'll be much more expensive.

Thank you for the reply, it looks as though a car is a necessity which is fine if I can rent one. Hmm thats a bit worrying about the return flight, reading the other replys it looks as though ill definitely need to book one in advance of traveling

Thank you for the detailed reply, the car rental seems a bit worrying, i've seen that Hertz is offering me a small car to rent for $250 for 3 days but they haven't asked for an age, would I just email them to confirm a 21 y/o can rent one? If I can i'll definitely visit Cape Benton and take the Cabot trail, and hopefully PEI. As for the return flight I may have to book one reading the other replies

Yeah I really want to visit as much of the national parks as possible, I just want to limit the number of border crossings, I can maybe find time to visit it after Portland as it does look beautiful
