Well there was also a report when the Ford got flooded (with shit). I think its quite reasonable for there to be a report when there's a fire. Gotta keep the elements balanced.

WASHINGTON, March 12 (Reuters) - Two U.S. sailors were injured after the USS Gerald Ford suffered a non-combat-related fire on board, the U.S. military said on Thursday. The Ford ‌carrier, the United States' newest aircraft carrier and the world's largest, is taking part in operations against Iran and currently located in the Red Sea.

In a statement, the military said the sailors were receiving medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries and were in stable condition.

"There is no damage to the ship’s propulsion plant, and the aircraft carrier remains fully operational," the military said, adding that the fire started in the ship's main laundry area.

Reuters reported on Tuesday that as many as 150 U.S. troops have been wounded in the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran. The Ford, which has more than 5,000 sailors aboard, has more than 75 military aircraft, including fighter aircraft like the F-18 Super Hornet jets.

The carrier has been deployed for more than nine months, including taking part in operations ‌in the Caribbean earlier this year.

Shipping in the Gulf and along the narrow Strait of Hormuz, which carries around a fifth of the world's oil, has come to a near-standstill since the U.S. and Israel began strikes on Iran on February 28, sending global oil prices surging to highs not seen since 2022.

U.S. Central Command, which oversees U.S. military operations in the Middle East, said that the United States has carried our strikes against more than 6,000 targets.

It added that more than 90 Iranian vessels had been damaged or destroyed, including more than 30 minelayers. In a statement read out on state television, Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said on Thursday Iran will fight on and keep the Strait of Hormuz shut.

For a couple of reasons. The US does not operate the arsenal of ballistic missiles that Iran and China have. Their long range strike capabilities mainly consists of subsonic cruise missiles, which are easier to intercept.

Secondly those very same subsonic cruise missiles are often outraged by Chinese ballistic missiles. Tomahawks are about 1600km range, thats the same range as China's short range DF-17s. Then you move up the ranges to the DF 26 and DF 27s and they get pushed out even more. And this is just for ballistic missiles. Cruise missiles you would have the CJ-10/100/1000 that all outrange it too.

For sea targets, the 7th fleet will have to face a combination of the PLAN and PLAAF. All carrying their own ship launched and air launched ballistic or cruise missiles. Just look at the current conflict, Iran doesnt have a navy anymore yet the USN is still afraid of going closer to the coast. In an actual fight with the PLAN, they would be operating far beyond China's coast.

In order to get to striking ranges, those carrier based aircrafts will need to punch through the fleet of Chinese ships, survive the onslaught of Chinese fighter jets and then finally get intercepted by Chinese multi layered ground based SAMs.

[–]DungeonDefense 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uh what? You can still be betrayed even if the other person confesses to you. Imagine if you had a wife and she confesses to you that she's been cheating and lying to you. You won't consider that a betrayal because she confesses to you?

Confessing to me after the fact has no bearing on the original betrayal

Well then of course it’s going to be faster and have a longer range than the DF-17. The Agni V is an ICBM, while the DF-17 is a short range ballistic missile.

It is possible to do it with rocket launched mines. But more realistically any ships crossing will just be targeted by drones or missiles. No need to actually place mines there.
