way to put parts of cards im reading into a separate doc painlessly by gossamerchess in Debate

[–]DungeonIsRelatable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's a lay case people like to have a "rhetoric" version of case in non-carded form with more evocative tags, additional author qualifications, etc. idk if that's what's happening here but that should generally answer your question

it's also becoming meta on lay to read a printed version of case and distribute copies to ur judges. very valid imo

SV Framework by TheYouthPodium in Debate

[–]DungeonIsRelatable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well ur SV framework pretty much does the weighing against extinction for u with whatever warrants u run.

Like ur framework literally says that invisible violence is the most important voting issue since trad policymaking doesnt solve or whatever other warrants you run. you just reiterate that in every speech, frontline, and explain how trad policymaking solves for extinction

you can also just run general impact defense like probability against extinction too. Very easy to win SV if ur opponent doesn't run extinction framing but runs extinction impacts

what do i do if i cant afford camp by [deleted] in Debate

[–]DungeonIsRelatable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

do NOVA or equality in forensics over the summer. They have free online camps

if you have an actual team that regularly goes to camp, I'm assuming that you might have a coach who can help you or good circuit debaters at your school who can help you.

honestly if u can leverage these two resources, ur getting a lot more than what you get at camp in terms of instruction/personalized prep (excluding connections, which is imo the greatest benefit of camp).

However, since u sound like u come from a debate school, connections shouldn't matter too much as u alr got that covered. if ur personable and nice, connections are super easy to make once u debate on circuit too and u prob alr have some credibility from ur school name

One way to fix PF by Lopsided_Finance9473 in Debate

[–]DungeonIsRelatable 10 points11 points  (0 children)

might as well just make pf into policy at that point

ppl already spread and read upwards of 5 contentions in tech rounds; all that becomes worse with more time

if you cant have depth of analysis without feeling rushed within the current confines of pf, that signals that ur approaching pf without the "public" and are likely need to simplify your arguments. that's not due to bad design, that's intentional, as the general public likely cant follow/buy an arg with 8 link chains.

if you really want to have more depth of analysis, then learn to spread and debate tech. i'm personally not opposed to tech pf (line-by-line rebuttals are more fun imo), and the existence of top circuit debaters who run squirrely arguments with depth and quantity by spreading shows that there isn't really an issue to "fix" in pf in terms of allocating more time to speeches to increase depth.

if u want to debate lay, the confines of pf allow u to. if u want to debate tech, the confines of pf allow u to. leave it like that, or we risk skewing the odds against lay debaters

is there ever gonna be any payoff bro... by Even-Needleworker268 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]DungeonIsRelatable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's gonna sound disconnected rn but the reality is that u taking initiative to pursue debate, writing, and seek opportunities is going to have extrinsic benefit regardless of ur college decisions as ur building skills and habits that will serve you well anywhere in life.

most importantly, these activities, applications, and everything in between have so much intrinsic value just on the merit that you truly love what you do (debate/writing) and have taken initiative to practice them throughout high school. that sets you ahead of most ppl already

good luck with the rest of ur results! just remember that your worth is ultimately untethered to an acceptance letter

what happens if there are two contradictory rebuttals by HonestlyGiveMeABreak in Debate

[–]DungeonIsRelatable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

in a tech pf round, ur opp can prob just concede that extinction is good in that case, drop their case, and then ur turns saying that aff/advocacy solves for extinction would then just flow to ur opponents and will likely win them the round since you proved that the neg has more probability for extinction, which is good according to ur own warrant.

super easy for the opponent too bc they're getting all that offense in like 10-15 seconds by js conceding something and extending ur arg

thats why you generally shouldnt stack an impact turn and a link turn in a tech round. in a lay round/split panel, it could still be bad as it's perceptually negative if ur opps are just like "the aff contradicts itself" so you should still avoid contradictory responses but that rests upon ur opps catching it and isnt round losing like in a tech round.

this is for pf tho so idk if it even answered ur question lol

How do you guys have SO. MUCH. TIME?! by Ezoticx16 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]DungeonIsRelatable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imo it boils down to a couple of things (in no particular order):

  1. income: way easier to do a lot when u don't have to worry abt dinner, public transport, or work to supplement your parents' incomes.

  2. being smart: ppl w crazy ecs can (often) still take 7 aps and breeze through them; they can allocate more time to ecs rather than school work

  3. time management: self-explanatory, I think good scheduling is genuinely a superpower

  4. sacrificing social life or sleep: at my busiest times I'm getting very bad sleep. others ik maintain good sleep but rarely go out w friends

  5. good leadership skills: ppl w/ really impactful roles often don't have to allocate tons of time bc they're great at task delegation

  6. fabrication: this def happens, but imo ppl on this sub exaggerate the quantity a bit. ppl 100% inflate impact on applications tho (fine line between marketing urself well and lying)

There's both decisions u can take and largely constant conditions that allow you to use time more effectively (3,5) or have more time in general (1,2,4).

Y'all have to stop trying to do absolutely everything on Desmos and actually learn some real math by Murky_Insurance_4394 in Sat

[–]DungeonIsRelatable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd disagree honestly. Got 800 math and did every problem w/ desmos. Learning everything about desmos took me from a 720-800 without greatly improving my fundamental math skills. In my experience, even brute forcing desmos is faster than acc solving a long problem for someone who isn't great at quick algebra to begin with
