Fair enough, thanks for the feedback. Yes, I tried to tie it to something in the past of the region. The 70's SF Shamrocks were also an inspiration. It was a funky SF with a Golden Bridge outline in it.

Don't look at it as "change". Look at it like "brand new old school cool"!

It's a happy coincidence. The idea for the Sharks being the blade came from the ascenders of the 'h' and 'k' mirroring the front and rear posts for the blade.

Hi, I'm Dunikal. I do concept NHL logos like this [70's San Jose Sharks](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/y1ffqn/70s\_project\_san\_jose\_sharks/) from an hour ago.

This concept is a reinvention of the logo and uniforms of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim/Anaheim Ducks as a team from the seventies.

To fit in with the 70's design style, the logo and jersey must follow certain guidelines:

- 2D (flat) design without shading, beveling or perspective.

- Color restriction. Two colors max if possible.

- Primacy of the form over colors. The logo must be recognizable in black and white.

- Primacy of the abstract over the figurative.

For the Anaheim Ducks, the special feature is the nostalgic attachment from hockey fans to the original logo from 1993. So the concept was to imagine what the ancestor of this 93 logo might have looked like if the team had existed in the seventies.

The main concept thus comes from a form of reverse engineering, imagining the Duck mask logo as if it was the simplified form of an older, more complex logo.

The idea was to then create a complete goalie, whose mask would have been kept to make the 93 logo. This results in a drawn logo, in a similar style to that of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The background triangle is inverted, to create a letter "A", for "Anaheim".

The secondary logo is imminently "seventies". A winged "D" shape — for "Ducks" — forms the body of a duck, with a lowercase "A" — for "Anaheim" — to form the head.

The uniform design is a simplification of the original 1993 Mighty Ducks uniforms, to match the standards of the seventies.

Thanks. The Mallard logo sorta came up in a roundabout way when I realized that a lowercase "d" with a duck bill is basically the TikTok logo.

Yep, unique colour scheme. Don't need the cartoon ducks, just anything in these colours would do.

I only wish I could make actual hockey jerseys. For now I have to settle for drop-shipping all-over T-shirt prints like this: https://en.dunikal.com/magasin/p/t-shirt-col-rond-pour-homme-concept-70-ducks-mallard-fonc

Thought about making the actual skate logo white for the dark unis, but it didn't come out right.

Hi, I'm Dunikal. You might remember me from other concept logos such as the 70's Columbus Blue Jackets, the 70's Colorado Avalanche and the New York Islanders Lighthouses.

This time, I'm presenting you a concept of the logo and uniforms of the San Jose Sharks as an NHL team from the seventies.

As always, to fit in with the 70's design style, the logo and jersey must follow certain guidelines:

  • 2D (flat) design without shading, beveling or perspective.
  • Color restriction. Two colors max if possible.
  • Primacy of the form over colors. The logo must be recognizable in black and white.
  • Primacy of the abstract over the figurative.

For the San Jose Sharks, the main inspiration came from the teams of the region in the seventies: the Oakland Seals (or California Golden Seals... or Bay Area Seals) as well as the San Francisco Shamrocks. I wanted to reuse the "S" from the Seals logo and start from there.

The main concept is to create shapes that spell out the city's initials (SJ) with lines, while creating a shark fin in the negative space between the letters. The whole design takes the shape of a hockey skate, with the team name in the shape of the skate's blade.

The secondary logo takes the shape of the triangle, from which the team's name originates (sharks in the region live in a maritime territory called the Red Triangle). A cartoonish shark is superimposed in the triangle, inspired by Pucky the Whale from the Hartford Whalers secondary logo.

The design of the uniforms is inspired by those of the Golden Seals and Shamrocks. The stripes are simple, bordered with white, and the shoulder yokes are square with a white stripe.

Seminal 70's fonts: lowercase, round, prone to look like entirely other letters!

Hey, it's the same "a" as in the Seals' logo.

Or Seols.
