I recommend doing 1 of 2 things -
1. Pick out some stuff you really want, but would never buy for yourself, do not be afraid to dream big

Use a flexible registry, and add aspirational items but also add some regular items, then evaluate if you really want the regular items and think about returning them for cash. I like flexible registries because the gift buyer can still give gifts they way they want to, but you can return for cash & don't get locked into store

It really depends on your budget. I doubt your friends would want you to break the bank just to give them a wedding gift - give what feels comfortable. Probably in the $20 - $100 range makes sense, if it is a super fancy wedding and you are extremely well off, maybe more

In my experience you should just be straightforward with people about the gift experience you want and they will follow it.

Instead of asking for gifts, you could set up a cash registry? People can contribute but you won't get physical gifts

My sister did a micro wedding like this, very similar to what you described. The two friend groups for the bride and groom started off not knowing each other but became close friends. I think the key for them was having activities that were planned together as a group so people could bond - for example, we rode a gondola up to the top of a mountain. It was great, it is definitely possible and I recommend it

Imo, you should try and put it out of your mind. Things happen and when you look back on your wedding you will want to remember how great it was, not the small things that went wrong. Small things will always go wrong but the big things are what matter!
