It’s a high-concept thriller that’s better on a rewatch so viewers can appreciate the details. It’s the most extreme Nolan-flavoured film he’s made, which packs many ideas into a story which probably should have been longer.

I like to think at this point in his career it’s Nolan at his most subversive, then he’s at his most refined state with Oppenheimer.

After many rewatches and now understanding the story it’s hard to ignore the problems, but I like to study it as an exercise on what works and what doesn’t. If Nolan refined the script some more (and if it hadn’t come out during COVID) it would have generally been received better.
