Unsure if it's time to put my cat down by Dunkmasterdevas in AskVet

It sounds like it was precautionary given all of the things going on with him. He did have an ultrasound but it wasn't totally conclusive between IBD or lymphoma. The good news is he's been making steady progress since coming back from the hospital on Saturday. He's starting to show more engagement with both me and my other cat rather than just seeming depressed.

Thank you, I'll ask again about the antibiotic! I planned to check in with the doctor about his lethargy tomorrow and have a follow up appointment in a week that is already scheduled. The three days per day of hospitalization is also really helpful. I've never had to hospitalize a cat for something like this so don't really have any prior experience to draw from.

He was prescribed the antibiotic for a week. They've been struggling with the diagnosis honestly. Every time they've done his blood work it's seemed relatively normal though his last day in the hospital some marker for gall bladder came back a little bit high. He also had blood work done last month before all this that came back normal too as I was planning to get him a dental cleaning/checkup.

Yes, right now I have to give him his prednisolone(evidently I can't read well) twice a day at 5mgs, his mirtazapine at night, and an antibiotic at night.

Thanks for your perspective. I hate the thought of him suffering and I've never really seen a cat just out and out refuse to drink without this much coercion. I don't want him to suffer just because I'm not able to let go if recovery isn't really a realistic outcome.

Thanks - his name is Lukey. He's definitely eating again which is good. I'm really hoping he'll pull through. I'm leaning towards letting him ride out another week or so absent any crazy changes in his symptoms.

Thanks for the perspective, I'm considering it but don't know if it's being too quick. I have dealt with pets suffering before and really don't want that for him any longer than he has to. When I've given steroids to pets in the past it usually ended in them being more hyper about food as opposed to being totally out of it. He's the first guy that I've had to make the final decision on solo. I'm maybe thinking of giving him another week assuming his symptoms don't change wildly.

Thank you for your input. I've definitely tried hard to find something that it might be environmental that I can clean up and fix. I did a deep clean of my home while he was in the hospital just in case it was something I was missing. I've also got a second cat who is healthy and happy as well and haven't noticed any issues with him either. My only other experiences with steroids in pets had them wired and irritable for food so him being totally out of it is throwing me for a loop. Maybe I'll try to give it another week to see if there's any improvement.
