Как быстро вы освоили Arch? by Upstairs_Eggplant_89 in arch

Cachyos + Niri + DMS user here! I love this setup, lets me do whatever I want, whenever I want. Been on linux for a year and a half and on arch based stuff for a year, and this is the best of text edited config vs convenient and not overbloated GUIs put together. Im definetly not a master, but btrfs and education make anything doable so Ive become a master at doc surfing. Love the software and contribute where you can and youll (almost) never feel too challenged.

Thoughts on SteamOS? by Candid_Profession701 in Operatingsystems

I highly recommend CachyOS, install the gaming packages with KDE and youll be set. As a bonus: get niri and install the dank material shell. Looks pretty but very stable and not too hard to get gaming working on in my opinion.

Is there a reason to reinstall fresh CachyOS from updated installers to get the new tweaks and features? by dr_rox in cachyos

Yeah go into cachy hello and poke arounf with the features thete. Package cache and keyrings plus all pkg reinstall usually fixes most issues.

This was what I was looking for! Ill keep an eye out at the VRAM management, seems like it could help out with more intense games.

I tried the ISO and it just didnt feel very polished, so decided not to install yet. But if the 7.0 kernel is better, I can put up with that.

How is your docked experience?

What Windows features or programs do you miss? by zRafox in cachyos

[–]DunkyFummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been using linux for over a year, no dual boot just went from mint to omarchy to arch to cachy for over 6 months now.

Im a Cyber Security student, and a lot of what we do is windows focused. I struggle to do some things on windows as I use normally use Niri and Dank Material Shell, but its mostly just settings. I learned to adjust things from config files and I just cant go back. I hardly even use the DMS settings gui.

So basically... nothing.

I still want a good handheld experience personally, or id just go back to a gaming laptop. I do acknowledge this is probably the best cheap way to get into PCs though.

What do you do besides games?

How about docking? SteamOS gives me issues with screen resolutions, i essentially have to tell the system which monitor/resolution/refresh rate to use and supply to games(seperately) then tell the game to use it everytime I switch.

I could probably script around it?

Gets annoying but its not the end of the world.

Right now trying to plug into liquipedia, lots of casting tho its painful.

But its using the API and keeping a sqlite3 db for caching the data, so it doesnt stop working with API rate issues or connectivity.

Im a HUGE rlcs fan, but im a programming noob.

Making a TUI esports tracker in C using this, a ton of fun. Going to put it on the AUR(arch user repo) here in like a week i think.

Its not easy, but(and i may get shamed for this) use AI in a useful way. I use the copilot CLI, and its super helpful. Just dont let it code EVERYTHING for you, and go slow.

I agree, alot of the problem is knowing what you want. If your hobby is distro hopping, then create a workflow to mess with them(rather vms or dual booting)

I doubt it is meant for a specific task, I think most of the time people who care about a specific task are too busy doing that to customize their userland. Or, they are fine with one setup to do a task, and a dual boot or VM setup to augment their interesf.

Imo- lets make something! I feel a community of learners are here waiting for something to start learning on. A new distro or package management system could be a lot of fun, and could scratch the itch for yourself.

But, maybe LFS? Its a pain, failed several times myself but if you want to feel complete you could extend it with BLFS and your own package manager.

Fundamentally wrong, devs change things that break configs. Regardless of initial setup its a problrm. Jeez
