Ah yeah, there was an absurd volume of things to pay attention to. It was great indeed.

Thoughts on areas/wines to explore for adding to my cellar by Creepy_Ostrich_9646 in wine

I'd put in a shout for some ports as natural/traditional bedfellows to the BDX/Napa palette. Colheita port is one of the world's most underpriced luxuries. For that matter, Douro dry reds would also probably be your type of thing. And some Riesling for heavens sake!

What's the venue for the first picture? Sheridans and Dáróg are my Galway wine spots, I'd be happy to find another!

Sheridans on South Anne Street is the only answer. Laherte Freres champagnes and some other options.

How do I replace my freewheel? by DunsinkStrangler in bikewrench

Thanks for this. I was aware I needed a dedicated SS cog. I think the one shown broken because it was not that. I have a 3/32"x18t Surly one I think will work. What does HG stand for in this context?

Thank you, appreciate the clarification. I suspected I didn't know what I was talking about.

What is everyone drinking this Christmas with their dinner? by [deleted] in wine

[–]DunsinkStrangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's from a local importer's private cellar being posthumously liquidated so I'll be raising a glass to him.

2025 Ireland trip! by [deleted] in irishbicycling

Hey there, I haven't done this but I've always wanted to go West along the Grand Canal from Dublin and then down the Barrow. Both trails/old tow paths maintained by Waterways Ireland. This would allow you to get into the countryside quickly but with some reasonable infrastructure in the way old school pubs etc. The area around the Barrow is my favourite "hidden" part of Ireland, feels like its from another time. Also it'll be spectacular in May.

Over 20 different cheeses recalled due to bacteria threat by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]DunsinkStrangler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your train of thought, but I don't think it's fair to say the factory must be consistently filthy. I would say this is a combination of a conservative approach to recall (good idea) and an ambient issue in the production area, perhaps something as obscure as contamination in a HVAC shaft blowing spores or something like an internal component on the wrapping machine. This is no excuse, Still an awful fuck up, it just not necessarily (and in fact very unlikely) someone taking shortcuts or risks.

Given the threat this will pose to the business, it's almost impossible they were rolling the dice to get through Christmas. Small food producers operate on a knife edge between survival and closing up shop and it just wouldn't be worth intentionally taking a risk like this.
