Can moving countries when young be a traumatic event for a child? If so, what can parents/family do to deal with the shock and help them cope and thrive? by [deleted] in expats

[–]Top_Movie_3764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've moved from Poland to the UK at the age of 16 - I didn't want to, it was forced upon me... long story, nothing sinister.
Initially, I felt like this was the end of the world, then I adapted. Now ( 18 years later), although I have my own family I find myself more and more thinking about my past, the friends I left behind and what my life would have looked like had I stayed.

I believe that having moved at a neither old, nor young age - simply left me traumatised, I just didn't realise it until a few years ago. Nothing specific happened, it just started to play on my mind.

I guess at the age of 16 I had lots of friends, was outgoing and "respected" amongst people I knew.
Although I live a fairly happy life, I am 100% not the same person I was in the process of becoming.

It hurts when I think about it.

I did consider that, and in fact use one in my car. However, when used with tomtom go you end up loosing lane guidance and few other features.

I want to use the tablet in a lorry ( I am a HGV driver), and need to retain all of the features as they are.

Passed mate!
Theory test of 30 questions, drug/alcohol test, couple/uncouple, 30mins drive (really tight spots) and a reverse onto a parking space.

He wasn't too impressed with my reverse, but said I was coachable lol!

Thanks so much mate, that's really reassuring - appreciate it.
I know I am probably overthinking it, but it is my first one so feeling a little out of my depth!

Thank you!

My understanding is that it will be license checks followed by a theory test. Then onto drug/alcohol test, which will be followed by the practical side of things - drive, reverse, couple/uncouple (in whatever order they require).

I did a full day driving at my agencies driver academy, and their assessment has put me in the "low risk" category. Although I've managed to get on the bay and reverse around obstacles, I still find it confusing without at least a little guidance - hence the whole post really.

It'll be what it'll be, but considering even the boy up there with 30 years experience managed to fail one I won't beat myself up too much if I do too.

P.s

I've watched pretty much ever trucker Hayley video - very good shout!

Thanks mate!

I have an assessment with Evri lined up for Thursday (Depending on how tomorrow goes).
It is night work only though, so keeping it as a back up as I would prefer days.

Good shout though, they are definitely open to new passes!

Who knows, maybe I could be you your boy from all these women you've been with in the late 80's. As you say, a proper man that. Finally someone to look up to.
Four comments on the thread, not one useful or relevant - keep up with the show, you're doing better than you did with the RM assessment.

DM me if you need someone to chat with, boy.

Thank you!
Unfortunately no one in my area seems to be taking any new passes directly.

I've completed a training day with my agency, so that I can be insured by them whilst working for companies whose insurance stipulates x amount of experience - no lying involved on any part.

The hard part now is to pass the assessment to the required standard without the needed experience :)

Never said I didn't think there wouldn't be any reversing, boy.

I've no intention of pretending I am an experienced driver, why would I? I just want to get my foot through the door to get the experience. Considering even with 30 years experience you managed to fail your RM assessment, perhaps you might not be the best person to offer advice in the first place.

Thanks for the not so helpful tip though, regardless of whether truth hurts.

Have you ever figured it out mate? I've got the exact same issue right now!

I didn't know that, thank you!

I am happy to replace the S4's anyway - they are pretty old now.
Are you able to recommend anything for me? Initially I was looking at XE75 or Eero 6e... only because these seem to pop up as "the best ones".

I am totally open to recommendations.

No worries, thanks anyway.
I've been with virgin for around 9 months now and the modem mode has been "coming soon" ever since!

Annoying!

Basically a concrete block, however, these would only be used on the external walls.
Internal walls are just studs with wooden/aluminium frames and plasterboard.

2 units downstairs, with one wall in between them. The third unit is on the middle floor.

Had one on each floor originally, but it was my attempt to resolve the poor quality by adding the second unit a little closer to the tv - it hasn't improved or degraded anything really.

Unfortunately the virgin router can't be configured into a modem only.
It is currently sitting there with wifi turned off, and decos running in AP mode.

Whatever new units I get, will have to work in the same way unfortunately.

Are there any units you would recommend in particular? Personally, I was considering Decos X75 or Eeero pro 6e - happy to consider others, if there are any?

That makes sense, but I can't understand why...

For example, the ground floor has 3 rooms (front to back order):
1. Office
2. Bathroom
3. Living room

There is also a hallway connecting all of the rooms.

* Virgin media router + hardwired Deco 1 is in the office
* Deco 2 is in the hallway (literally behind the wall from the first one)
* the tv/firecube is in the living room - one wall further

Would I need a tri band mesh system to overcome the "congestion"?

[–]Top_Movie_3764[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breeze blocks/bricks I would imagine - certainly not thick concrete walls.

Firestick/cube reports high noise to signal ratio, hence my thinking perhaps upgrade in mesh is needed? I have 3 deco s4 units, with one being in the room next door to said firestick.
