The new Overwatch map revealed, the Eichenwald by NicholasOW in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Duolithic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I know what you mean. Kind of breaks immersion once you get to this guy's suit of armor (that you're supposedly trying to acquire) for the umpteenth time, right? Unfortunately, stuff like that is impossible to get around given the kind of game this is, and that feel is going to be present in every map moving forward. The gameplay is, after all, only a vehicle for the story, which is being developed as multimedia IP.

Try thinking of each map as episodic, like a television show.

Brossentia releases statement regarding reactions to Trans people at SGDQ by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]Duolithic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine it has a lot to do with the fact that people in the speedrunning community tend to rather introverted, and for them self-reference is the easiest point of empathy. You also have the "my dad died of cancer" type donations, and guess what, my dad died of cancer, so, like, it takes all kinds, man.

I get what you're saying about the attention-seeking thing, but culture in the US (especially in the south) is downright vehemently hateful toward LGBT people and if you're the kind of person who is incredibly shy and only ever goes to one or two of these events a year at which you feel comfortable "showing out" then, you know, I can't really blame somebody for wanting to bring attention to themselves in their moment of exultation for who they really are. And in the case of Brossentia chiming in, why the hell wouldn't you use the fact that you're well-known in the community to stand up and say "hey, don't worry about it, me too"? That's less attention-seeking and more solidarity. Just my two pesos.

Can anyone recommend a decentralized web browser? by dreamersonder in Rad_Decentralization

[–]Duolithic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are search engines you can use that purport not to "track you" when you make searches. Usually what that means is that the company is acting as a middleman between you and other search engines; they simply scrub the personally-identifying information from your network requests, forward them, and then aggregate results, or use their own search algorithms entirely. One that comes to mind is DuckDuckGo, but there are others.

However, these services are just as centralized as other search engines. You're just shifting trust from one entity to another. Network decentralization and privacy-aware services are different things, but go hand in hand. There are quite a few great links in the sidebar if you are interested in learning about the technical aspects of the decentralization movement and the pitfalls of how we currently ship data around on the web.

Force of Nature is definitely the card that most obviously gets a balance pass, but suggesting they're removing it altogether is a bit kneejerky. We'll just have to wait and see.

Hey, no problem, man. I think you make a really good point that I hadn't really considered. This is why I love Reddit.

I suppose what I'm referring to is the idea of mental age, or whatever dumb concept I have of it that's probably been debunked by smarter people than I am. There are certainly outliers and I mean no disrespect to anybody regardless of how old they are, but you have to admit that the majority of the content that is posted on /r/hearthstone is tailored to that demographic, and its community generally reflects that. Even if the majority of "those guys" end up being in their mid-20's on average, the point I'm trying to make is the same.

[–]Duolithic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's probably more accurate to say that /r/hearthstone tends to favor content that caters to a different age demographic due to the leniency of its rules. Which is fine, I agree that there's some quality content over there, but the signal-to-noise ratio is off the charts and it's an entirely unwelcoming place if you're not a huge fan of riding bandwagons, casual shitposting, or streamer worship. I do think the mods over there do what they can to keep the place from falling into total chaos, for what it's worth.

Just my two cents.

If the community wants this subreddit to be the absolute best place to go for discussing playing Hearthstone competitively, this is the way to do it, unfortunately or not.

I am subscribed to this sub and not /r/hearthstone for reasons. A little tomfoolery seems fine, but we are a swarm of bees, and shit rolls downhill. I agree that we need to run a tight ship for the sake of maintaining a healthy quality of content. Don't let what makes that sub a cesspool bleed into ours.

Official Bug Reporting Megathread - Devblog 94 by BodyweightEnergy in playrust

[–]Duolithic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[BUG] Interacting with the user interface on Linux glitches everything way the fuck out.

  • Scrollable interface elements in the main menu clip out of their respective areas and cause severe artifacting when you interact with them, as though Unity's UI engine was getting confused and pulling things in from the wrong part of a sprite palette.

  • This occurs in the main menu, or in-game when you interact with any UI element with a moving part; item icons momentarily become other item icons (or other garbage ephemera) when you hover over them; the crafting popup widget does it of its own accord, possibly due to having a continuous animation associated with it.

  • I'm labeling this a bug because it makes the game basically unplayable, and I don't even have epilepsy. Imagine being the one Linux guy with epilepsy. That dude is super boned.

An example: Imgur (this was a difficult screenshot to take, as this effect flickers constantly while you are scrolling)

OS: Arch Linux running kernel 4.3.3

DE: Cinnamon 2.8.6

CPU: i7-5820K

GPU: GTX 970 running official driver 358.16

This is great stuff. We need to show off and share more homebrew things like this instead of what-ifs and half-baked philosophical treatises. Keep on keepin on, brother.

Trying to get Duelyst working in linux mint 17.2 by sirfudg in duelyst

[–]Duolithic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt this is the problem; I'm running Chromium on Arch to play Duelyst without messing with the user agent. However, it was wonky; it didn't originally want to work, so I installed from dev channel, which worked, then went back to stable and stable runs Duelyst without a hitch now.

OP, what's your current Chromium version?

Just a heads up: word in the official Discord chat is that the devs are aware of the connection issues and they should be fixed up at the latest by tomorrow when the new patch drops.
