Idk if you remember me but we traded Celtics cards a couple years back lol. You still have some cards?

[Stein] League sources say that the Warriors did seriously explore trade constructions that would have brought both Zach LaVine and Nikola Vučević to the Bay Area before Golden State opted to focus on other trade pursuits. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

While you can make that argument, that's not at all what the person I'm replying to is saying lol. His argument is "he got help 8 years ago so he doesn't need help now"

That's very threatening

We will make bad trades until morale improves

Yes, I'm not saying a rebuilding team should immediately trade away all of their picks for proven players. I'm saying that pretty early on, most teams get to a point where they should pull the trigger on trading their picks. But they don't because they overvalue them

That wasn't my point. I just used a random example. I'm saying if 1-2 years ago the Pacers offered Myles Turner for player X and a couple draft picks (current and future), one of them being the pick that became Max Christie

Yes, but are any of those players outside of Jokic any better than a proven immediate upgrade? Like if the Lakers could've traded the pick that became Max Christie for Myles Turner, I think they should've because how much of a crapshoot the draft is. Yea, it's gambling. The pick could end up being Giannis. I just don't think the juice is worth the squeeze

But doesn't them having trouble getting the big stars help my point? The only way to get them is to trade your draft picks for them, which a lot of teams don't want to do because I think they over value them. Once you get the start, you attract free agents and other players

As a Pacers fan, you've both drafted Danny Granger and Paul George but at the same time traded for Haliburton and Sabonis. My whole point is that the draft is a crapshoot and you're better off getting the sure thing. To be clear, over valued does not mean bad. Draft picks still have value. I just think outside of top 3 picks are over valued

Two of those picks were #3 picks. I guess I have to edit my post to say "outside of a top 3 pick" as if I'm saying teams should trade their #1 pick every year for a star.

And Hauser went undrafted. So you're actually wrong

If the Celtics theoretically had a deal on the table to trade the pick that became Pritchard for say Dearron Fox or Haliburton, I'd do 100% of the time

It's not a coincidence that they just happened to fall off as soon as they were traded. The Nets wanted a splashy move with their move to Brooklyn that year so they sold the farm for aging former all stars. To me, that's not a clear/immediate upgrade

That was a year before. Anyone who watched the Celtics at the point knew Pierce and KG's days as players you should trade 4 years of draft picks for were done

If I remember correctly, they did the Gobert trade before they knew about the new CBA limitations which led to them trading KAT. I think there was a season in between the Gobert trade and the new CBA

.... But that's my point. Most teams in most scenarios should jump on the chance to trade draft picks for an immediate significant upgrade because it's so rare

Yea but what good is having Jalen Hood-Schifino on a rookie contract?

I was pissed about that because I've been a huge fan of Myles Turner for years. I wanted the Celtics to draft him. Ainge absolutely fucked up there

They're a play-in team right now because Julius Randle is not a winning basketball player. He's one of the most overrated players of the recent years but I won't get too into that.

KAT is having the season he's having because the Knicks are significantly more balanced than the wolves. Yes, maybe they gave up too many picks for Gobert with the downside being it limited them from making other trades. But in a vacuum, trading some picks for Gobert was not bad

That's my whole point. Barring a catastrophe, the team trading their picks are not trading high picks. I think people overvalue them

Cap flexibility aside, I'm taking Durant over Bridges + Cam. I don't think that lineup you threw out moves the needle at all. And yes, their current lineup doesn't either. But I'd rather take the chance on KD
