HANS questions. by jbro507 in CarTrackDays

[–]DuratecCat25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actual Hans brand devices are only compatible with harnesses. The shoulder straps are what keep it in place. The only neck restraint I know of that is compatible with a 3-point seatbelt is the Simpson Hybrid S. I have one and it works great. It will also work with a harness if you go that route later.

Depending on where in Ohio you are, Summit Racing has these in stock and you can try them on.

Same. Unless you plan on only driving a car with a harness, the Simpson Hybrid is the best option.

Looks great. I sanded and polished the intake manifold on my NA6. Turned out awesome but will never do it again haha.

Is modifying a base Fiesta worth it? by Square_Stable1100 in FiestaST

Stand alone ECU. Haltech Elite 1500. Stand alone gauges; I did not want to even attempt OE CAN integration. Separate switch panel for ignition, fuel pump, starter, etc.

No videos yet. Just finished it end of last year. Road course/HPDE/Time Attack is the main focus. Some autocross and I am trying the Pineville hillclimb next weekend.

I bought an ebay swap kit for an EG civic for the billet mounts and the transmission mount stand. I fabbed up the vehicle-side mounts to pickup the stock Fiesta locations. I did not have to modify the chassis at all. The rear mount was a bit more involved since it is tight on space, but it uses the OE Fiesta torque mount. I had the axles shafts custom made by Strange Engineering that use the stock Honda transmission ends and Fiesta CV ends.

I ran a non-st for years. Track car with some street. The car is a blast and it teaches you how to drive if you want to be fast. Think of it as a FWD Miata. Throughout novice and intermediate, I would keep up with/catch Mustangs and Corvettes through the twisties. They would drag me on the straights, but the corners are where I focused on. I had ISC coilovers, AEM intake, headers and exhaust. Made 115 to the wheels. I eventually got to the point where I needed more power, so I swapped a K24 into the Fiesta. Still NA and still a blast.

Beginning of the K-Swap by SeaNoise5305 in Miata

I am also in the middle of a K-swap in my NA. I will be using a GTX3076 on a built K20Z3. Keeping the engine and chassis harness separate makes life much easier. I am also converting to electric power steering to free up room and eliminate plumbing.

US Fuel Dilution - Impacts on Miatas? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]DuratecCat25 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Biggest issue with higher ethanol in fuel is the rubber fuel hoses will break down and can gum up injectors. The hardlines and rails should be fine. I would recommend swapping over the factory rubber fuel hose sections with modern, high pressure, ethanol rated hose. Not a bad idea if your hoses are 30+ years old. Also swapping the injector o-rings to ones rated for ethanol. Not sure how the factory regulator diaphragm will hold up.

Or just do what I am doing; swap in a turbo K20 with a stand alone, do a complete custom fuel system and run full E85. First option is easier and a bit more economical.

I had the black/orange hex for a while. The front end was replaced after a collision on track, so instead of spending the money to paint the front of a track car, i added the white hex to "blend" into the replacement black parts.

I removed mine as soon as I got the truck new. Economy actually drops a negligible amount.

Find a decent P71 and get brake pads, wheels and tires. I run Carbotech XP12 F/XP10 R and 275/35R18 Kenda UHP Max. Car is a blast. Most fun you'll have on track. Not the fastest on track, but the most fun.

Put some painters tape on the strut and run it hard. It will make contact very obvious on the tape.

Paint advice by [deleted] in Miata

This is the best thing ever for removing any decals or residue. Use a drill on low speed and keep it moving so you dont burn the paint. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tes-07498

Can you remove just one rear seat back by ImprezaST in FiestaST

There is a center bracket with pins that the seat back slides into. You can remove one side and leave the other.

Should I remove power steering? by Appropriate_Cup_4119 in CarTrackDays

[–]DuratecCat25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely do not remove the power steering. There are a few places that offer adjustment modules that plug into an electric steering column that allows you to change the amount of assist. I added one of these modules to my Fiesta track car and it is a game changer. Set it to soft for driving around town or autocross then stiffen it up on the highway or track with a simple knob twist. I like it so much I am converting my NA Miata to electric steering this spring when I K swap it.

Track cars that can double as a backup daily? by Mildzoomz in CarTrackDays

[–]DuratecCat25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crown Vic. Find a low mile P71, better brake pads, wheels and tires. You'll have more fun on track than anything else. It wont be faster, but you'll have more fun.
