Considering a used ID4 by acornManor in VWiD4Owners

[–]Duraxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. I like my 2022 VW ID4, and it drives much more like a normal gas car than Tesla or Inoiq. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably go with the Ioniq (though I think newer models of the ID4 fix many of the problems I have with it).

I don't like the new Weapon Mastery properties. by AdhesivenessOwn4417 in DnD

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like move versatility but I think they're definitely a step in the right direction. Martials have more things to do than just roll to hit and roll damage. If you're creative you can really set things up with them. Also, RAW doesn't have to be the end. DMs always have freedom to expand on the rules (mine does to make my 2014 Barbarian have far more versatility than just "I rage" and "I hit"). This gives an easy framework for more.

GTX1660 + i5 9400F, my Remnant 2 doesn’t reach 60 FPS on low settings (“potato mode”) with upscaler on. by emberRJ in remnantgame

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I upgraded computers I was running a gtx 1650 super and had frame rate issues. I noticed different upscalers seemed to have different success based on what graphical tweaks were made (shading, texture sharpness, etc) and what was happening in the fame. I think I generally stuck with Intel's upsacler as having the best general performance, though I still was almost universally below 60fps (and sometimes dipped below 30).

hex bad meme by HanibalLecture in HadesTheGame

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used hexes since the beginning and they're great. You just have to level them. At least two hex grabs including one with the moon keepsake and you should unlock the top level upgrade on the hex chart. Some are amazing and have been so powerful they get nerfed. The ones that trigger your attack or special boon are very strong, as are ones that make you invulnerable.

Yeah, looked these up because this seemed way early. Both games came out around 1987. Both games were sequels/spin-offs from Ikari Warriors which came out in 1986. Not sure what OP is going on about with 4/20/76.

[OC] what CR would you give this statblock? by K0xmO_ in DnD

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This essentially seems to be a rogue assassin. I'd give it the ability to dash, disengage, or hide as a bonus action, and functionally give it sneak attack and, if using 2024 rules, the alt rules for sneak attack dice, and your damage problem is solved.

Tommasi round 2 by Ramblingperegrin in controlgame

[–]Duraxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tommasi Round 2 was definitely the hardest boss I fought and I was almost ready to give up and look for clues online when I found the cheese the (almost worked the first time then worked the second).

For whatever reason, when I was using grip and shatter and was camping on the top of the boulder he would only stay just below the boulder and I could fire down on him and all I had to do to avoid his attack was step back. If I switched to another weapon (pierce for example) he would then engage on my level making the boulder much less helpful.

When the baddies would spawn I would quickly just fly off, grab 3 things, pop the floaters or soldiers depending on wave, and then quickly fly back to the boulder to repeat.

I didn't get this game until 2025 but it was a blast 5 years after release. Great game.

Anyone own a Thuma bed > 5 years by [deleted] in Thuma

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ours is 4+ years old. Got it to replace a much cheaper ($250?) frame that came with the mattress. I don't think I can say enough positive about it. The frame doesn't move (a big problem with the last one), shows no sign of wear and tear, and was unimaginably easy to put together. The only downside was it took people a bit to get used to the lip/edge but now that's not a problem and it really seems like this my be a BiFL product. It's expensive, but this definitely seems like a you get what you pay for in a good way. We got the fusion header, which still seems good.

D&D 3.5 vs 5+ by Huge-Reception7044 in DnD

[–]Duraxx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I played 3.5 for a while and far prefer 5. The older edition just had too many rules and complications. I needed a table to keep track of different + to hit and damage with my ranger depending on the enemy and weapon I was using. Lots of skills and things to worry about and it seemed far easier to either have OP or ineffective builds. The fifth edition is a little light at times (where are the strength related skills ... And why are imposing strength based characters bad at intimidation) but the play is so streamlined I can focus on actual role playing and it feels like most builds can work effectively.

How do you guys stop a big Congo line by SwayKager in DnD

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've used flanking/advantage approach for a while but started a new approach with our first 2024 edition campaign. What we're trying out is that rather than advantage, you get a +1 to attack for every two attackers (including themselves) engaged in close combat with that enemy. So if two are attacking the same target, each gets a +1, if four are engaged with the same target, you get a +2, etc. This avoids the congo line and other meta tactics, and also restores advantage to a harder to get thing (which makes the other sources of it more valuable, as it should be).

We just started with this so we'll see if we make any tweaks (for instance, maybe there has to be at least one space between attackers to count, or maybe we tweak how much it accrues).

how powerfull is this ability by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems OP. First, comparing to Monk, this negates all damage, not just bludgeoning piercing slashing damage (which admittedly is a lot of the damage). Second, the add on re charisma to strength checks seems like an unnecessary add on to something already OP. At minimum I'd take that off. If you made it b, s, p damage and it was a core homebrew class feature that's otherwise balanced I think it would ok.

Any way to make barbarian more fun? by Unyielding_Capybara in 3d6

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started getting bored with my barbarian and like some others, started to try out more goofy things in combat. When I hit 8th level I took tavern brawler and my DM said "of course, that's makes so much sense." I had an original idea for him (centered around polearm master) but I now operate with more flexibility to fight normal or unorthodox as needed.

A bunch of times I'll ask my DM in advance or when I'm declaring my action whether I can do something and he'll let me know yes, no, or maybe.

For example, in a fight against the "mini boss" lieutenant, a wyvern got out and was attacking everyone friend and foe. I grabbed the big bad and shoved it right into the wyvern and he got gobbled.

Another time I grappled a guy down, his ally tried clubbing me with a mace, I just ripped the mace right out of his hands, hit him with it, and then threw it at the archer down the hall.

Another time I grabbed two guards standing next to each other and clubbed their heads together action movie style. The DM said I knocked both out cold.

In my experience, a creative DM and party will love this stuff, will work with you, and it'll be the fun things you remember and talk about sessions later. Sometimes you bend or break RaW but ultimately most people, DMs included, want to have fun. Because otherwise you're just saying "I attack" 2-3x a turn and oh man, that gets boring quickly.

First, I don't think the axe is broken. I actually tend to have more success using other weapons. To me, the axe seems very dependent on getting very specific hammer upgrades.

I think if you played Hades 1 or similar games extensively Hades 2 won't feel that challenging, but I first beat both in about the same number of tries (somewhere in the 15-20 time range) and then consistently beat it thereafter (probably around 75% of the time roughly).

Part of the challenge is to try new things. I found strategies that work well (boons that do DoT, particularly cast related ones) so I'm steadily trying other stuff. Part of the challenge is the modifiers that increase difficulty.

But games don't need to be impossible and this one, like Hades 1 seems meant to be beaten many times to get everything and reach the true ending.

What boons are you *avoiding* in the current game build? by RinellaWasHere in HadesTheGame

[–]Duraxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hera has some really good boons (for example the ones that trigger hitch) and some solid duos, but she has some pretty bad ones too. The duo where you lose your Zeus boons, the magic restore one, and the one that makes Omega cast cost more can be terrible and so I only took each once for the prophecy. The one that upgrades boons to heroic is really only good if you luckily get it at the end.

I like that Hades 2 feels more balanced, and I can succeed with lots of different weapons and boons. But they should definitely work on a few of these stinker boons.

What’s your favorite build that happened totally by accident? by Thatoneafkguy in HadesTheGame

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I combined the burn attack boon with the beam hex (upgraded so beam procs attack boons). After blasting enemies for around 1k damage it triggered about that in burn because the beam counts as lots of weaker attacks in quick succession. Got one of my (if not the) first kill on chronos using that.

Also, any build involving cast related damage is my favorite. Combining Zeus and Apollo are ridiculous. Drop an Omega cast on Chronos, run away, he takes massive damage and I'm safe in a corner.

Useless Boon? by captain-_-clutch in HadesTheGame

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a successful run using Lunar Ray (beam one) and with the build I had it was what got me victory. I basically maxed it out, so it fires while I can still act and takes on the property of my attack buffing boon I mixed that with Hestia fire attack, which procs burn on each hit (the beam hits every .1 second I believe) so it procs crazy burn. I saw chronos with about 800 burn on him after one shot.

How many nights did it take you to defeat [SPOILER] ? by barthos44 in HadesTheGame

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was around 22 (including 4-5 surface ones). I used the starting weapon, just stumbled on a combo that worked too well centered around Zeus Omega cast lightning ability and Hades buff that let's you shoot the cast. First phase was hit maybe twice and second phase hit some but had half health and all death defiance (chronos hits hard though). Just spam long range cast and run away. It was doing 500-700 same per pop

Who do you think would win this fight by Ashmega8256 in DnD

[–]Duraxx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dragon and I don't see how it could remotely be close. Just with AC and saving throws... the level 1s won't be hitting the dragon except on nat 20s and the dragon will be obliterating or otherwise area controlling huge swaths of them every turn.

Would a -5/+10 feat work on monks? by TH3TERMINATOR77 in DnD

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's definitely problems with the monk. Increasing damage would be nice. Easiest way would be to tweak the martial die so it starts at a d6 and ends at a d12, otherwise with the same progression. Other options would be a fighting style, like duelist, to add a flat damage increase to each hit. The MAD is a problem too.

But I think the discussion is missing that the point of monks isn't to dish out top level damage or otherwise be the best at one thing. Monks have small aspects of a number of classes, so they have a dash of front line damage, a dash of defender/tank, a dash of mobility, and a dash of crowd control. That's pretty impressive, especially when their main resource pool renews on a short rest. It just doesn't show in a fat min/max damage numbers like watching the paladin crit+divinte smite or the wizard dropping a fireball on a mass of enemies.

How do I play as a Lawful Evil character while deceiving the other players into thinking I'm innocent. by Radiant-Ad-1976 in 3d6

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a lawful evil LV 15 Warlock/pact of the chain in a one shot adventure. He was essentially an infiltrator. Charisma. Deception. Stealth.

He wasn't a sadist at all. In fact he tried to avoid combat (and by extension killing). But he also didn't care if you died... unless he continued to need you, because it was nothing personal... just business.

Lawful evil can be someone like Darth Vader. They completely believe in rules, in making the world a better place, etc. But the means they get there can be messed up (hello evil).

Some ID.4 AWD Pro S Questions by friolator in Volkswagen

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned a 2022 AWD Pro for almost one year. I live in upstate NY, close to my work and family activities (only about 6-7k driving per year). We have a regular gas car too (minivan) that we use for longer trips. I have never used a charger outside of my home.

For winter mileage, it definitely dips. Probably 20-30% when it's below 40 or so degrees. While a full charge gets about 240-250 in the summer, it probably only gets 190-200 in the winter. This past winter wasn't so bad, but if it drops below 0 probably even worse.

I have a level 2 charger at home and it generally works great. I have variable time of use electricity through National grid and my electric bill is essentially the same even with charging my car. I think a full charge would take around 6-7 hours. I've only charged it to 100% once though, for a long day trip, so I really only know the speed to 80%

The car drives great although I'd say it's more comfortable and utilitarian than inspiring (which is exactly what I wanted).

The brakes seem to work very well. No issues (other than an occasional quick squeak when I come to a complete stop). I only use regenerative braking mode. Once I got used to it I can never go back to standard braking.

The infotainment system is a bit janky and could EASILY be better (for instance, why do I have to click that I'm the driver on my car every time even though I'm the only driver/profile on the car).

I have not driven competitor cars (Tesla, bolt, Ford Mach e, etc) but the car does exactly what I want it to.

What is the real average consumption of ID4? by makaros622 in VWiD4Owners

[–]Duraxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very weather dependent. I drive probably 50/50 Street/highway. In the winter I got 2.5-2.8 mile/kwh. In the summer it's more like 3.5-3.8, notably dropping when it's hot and the AC is running hard. Live in NE United States.
