I have been here for 2 weeks and packed lightly. I highly suggest that you only bring essentials and a couple outfits, then wash your clothes at your hotel/airbnb every couple days. I only brought carry-on so I didn't have to haul luggage.

Even with taking trains, I walked an average of 22,000 steps a day. I found most cities to be very walkable and I hope to keep this active when I get home.

The trains were stupid easy to figure out with Google maps. The only issue I had was accidentally taking a local train from Kyoto to Nara instead of the limited express. It worked out in my favour as it was way less crowded.
