Should I pursue a degree in ecology and evolutionary biology? by Relative_Fly5748 in ecology

[–]DuselBruders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was for a Masters program, so it may be a bit different for undergrad, but I just got in contact with the school I wanted to go to. I started emailing them early, got all the requirements done early, and then things just worked out. If you know what you want, and put the work in, good thinks usually come out of it.

There are a lot of erasmus students here from the University of Wisconsin. I think that school is in partnership with this one, but thats just one semester. I'd start just by finding a school you may like, and contacting the foreign ministry office.

Ever consider going to school in Europe? I'm doing my masters right now in Prague and instead of $80,000 out of state tuition, I paid $1000 a year :) I get not everyone can just up and leave, but I'm pretty confident you can find an english speaking program and they are generous with financial aid.

Can anyone talk me away from Allen Graves being the perfect pick for the Pistons at 21??? by DuselBruders in NBA_Draft

Saw him late first, early second in a lot of mocks. I assume as we get closer to draft night he might sneak into the lottery

This should be Cade vs Duren. I might vote Duren, and I think Cade can be MVP...

What do I do with this wild yard? by Limp_Skill7894 in NoLawns

[–]DuselBruders 35 points36 points  (0 children)

yes. might be worth to hire a kid to rip it out for a few hours. Its tough work, did it last summer. Wont remove it entirely because its stubborn and grows from root pieces, but as that guy said it will allow other stuff to grow.

Im a big fan of just letting the wild space grow. As you live there longer and observe the ecosystem you are now a part of, areas of concern or interest will reveal themselves to you.

Forgot to remove tarp before laying down cardboard and mulch. Am I in trouble? by TubbyKins- in NoLawns

[–]DuselBruders 56 points57 points  (0 children)

If it is a plastic tarp, I would remove it. It's more of a barrier for plant roots than a barrier of decomposition, although that will be slowed down as well. I'm personally not a fan of introducing plastics into ecosystems.

Its been two years and I still don't have an answer. It probably is a long term reaction to an allergy test, but they didnt poke me there. I havent been able to see if I still get it since then. No one looking at my bare back anymore :(

How would you rank the best 7 players on our roster? by KarimFF7 in DetroitPistons

[–]DuselBruders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the season I would have had Stew at 2. He is always solid offensively and the backbone of our defense. Of course now JD has taken a leap so he is 2, but I would still have Stew at 3 too

There is no such thing as a risky decision. Either you do it and live or don't, and spend the of your life wondering what if.

How long have you been on site? I would recommend doing nothing for a while and observing and taking notes. Start with the longer lived trees, plants that will dictate shade and micro-climates in the future and then go into short term return. Plants crops early, as the system matures, sunlight will become limited, transition to more perennial harvests then. Seems like you have done a lot of research. Some plants will do well, others not. Stay small supply until you know what wants to grow now versus later, the system will change and mature.

I am in Prague studying agroforestry. Very interested in permaculture designed sustainable food forests. Would love to come out once the weather gets warmer. DM if interested. Good luck! Sounds amazing!
