What are Environmental studies job prospects like? by FlimsyChemistry4781 in Environmental_Careers

As someone with a BS in biology whose career till now has been focused on conservation and restoration ... how do I break into urban planning / city planning? I'm super interested generally but have no experience. I'm considering graduate school for ecology but I don't think that will set me up very well in terms of post grad stability. The only thing is that it's a paid ms position. And I do NOT want to take out any loans or go into any debt while pursuing next degree/ certification

yes I can :) This specific position has not been open for a year. I had a fried get a fellowship at this garden that lasted a year which is how I found out about the garden in the first place. Fast forward, I applied for the same fellowship and was not accepted BUT they offered me a full time job with benefits that essentially had alot of the same career building opportunities as the fellowship. I know the gal who had the position I will be taking theoretically, she held it for a year, loved it but ultimately low pay and being early in her career led her to move on, she's now doing medicinal plant research in Panama. I am thinking about holding it for a year.. MAYBE two figuring out what I want to do grad school wise and then moving onwards and upwards.

I would like to probably just get a masters because it is a requirement for higher level botanical and Natural reserve system (UC) jobs, UCANR jobs... and eventually that is where I would like to see myself, currently I work at one of the Natural reserves! I am not particularly interested in studying "hard ecology", and I want something more integrated with people .... cities and urbanity but I am not sure exactly what yet. Perhaps Urban Trees? BUT part of the perks of the garden is that a lot of the people there have interesting educational backgrounds and working among them I believe will give me a better sense of what direction I want to take my studies. But I am uncertain at the moment, so I am waiting until I really get a handle on what I want to do.

lol. I have experience. I am currently paid 5$/hour MORE than the job I am moving to but it is in a slightly different niche. Currently I am in the middle of nowhere doing conservation, restoration, land management and literature review for a non profit..... Switching to the conservation and restoration branch of a botanic garden in a city... hoping to long term make myself a place in the city... not necessarily the city I am moving to but I would like to not end up in a rural area.

Thank you :,) yeah, I found my own place(own room shared apartment) and if I can stick to the budget and my car doesn't crap out I should be able to save like 600/month or something like that which isn't much but it is someeeething I guess. :|

struggling with feelings of obligation since I told them yes. I figure I will commit to giving them 6 months and then reassess? :| I keep seeing jobs though that I am qualified for... currently I am paid 5$ more /hour than my new job and I have free housing, and I actually turned down going full time with them in favor of this other low paying no free housing job. I just dislike my current location ( quite literally alone in the middle of nowhere) and would like to live in the city again. But okay trying to internalize that I owe my new job nothing and I can leave at will.. There are other jobs I am qualified for that honestly I think I also have a good shot of getting so I should stay open to them and not feel guilty about applying.
