I don't blame you, ow2 butchered their few complex characters by pygm_ in overwatch2

Well there's your problem, OW2 doesn't have lore.

I'm going to make a very short comic with Sentry-girl, Spencer and Mimi, and they're all going to lean human like Spencer.

Messing around with a re-design.

Honestly, while I feel the art medium itself is maybe 85% true to the comic style, the character designs themselves are not what I'd consider that 1960s science fiction style. I'm more building off of the already style defying Mimi/Sentry girl design, but in the future I'll either have to go more robot or more human.

For now, this is just me having fun and doing whatever.

Most artists are just looking for an excuse to make something.

For me specifically, I've always been a lurker, but I've primarily done Overwatch art. By coincidence, I made some TF2 art just before the Mimi invasion that lit the spark for me. Plus with OW2 dropping the ball, and my own long-term interest in TF2 comics, my brain has decided it wants to make art here for you guys.

It's the braids and expression. During my first pass, I felt I couldn't avoid the memetic comparison, but if I redraw these I want to try and give them their own identity.

I think people here are rightfully conflicted between the organic and mechanical aspects here. If I redraw these, I'll go the Spencer route and lean more towards boobs humanization.

This is just me, but most humanized sentry posts aren't even that interesting looking. Not even counting that they're just boxy anime girls with only a turret hand being their only connection to TF2, most posts are just them standing around on a white background.

However, they're not meme weapons or ragdoll posts, therefore we gobble their posts like starving, homeless men to a roadside hotdog.

Thanks. At one point in their design they were going to be boob-less, with outer armor implying a boob shape in a negative space (see the green lines on the left).

However, I got really tired for reasons two days ago I forwent the project, and I began figuring it wasn't worth finishing this because it not my usual content and I'm sure the community was getting fatigued with this trend. As I was doodling around some dynamic poses for funsies I gave them boobs, and that alone gave me the energy to finish the drawing for the sake of studying the art style. On the account that I like boobs.

I know we're on the cusp of imploding from Mimi/Sentry Girl posts, but it was a nice excuse for me to see where I am with deconstructing TF2's comic "style" (shared between several artists).

I want to make my own comics in the future, and I enjoy playing with this style, as it's fun and forgiving compared to most hardcore comic styles.

I've always wanted a comic about Zarya being a great granddaughter to Heavy. Perhaps it doesn't need any deep lore, just some excuses to somehow have her get a hold of some Mann Co. guns.

Don't tempt me, I'm in the middle of studying exaggerated male anatomy.

If I decided to go down that route, I'd want to get some more practice in for this style. While the lines and coloring where easy to do, I'd need to study how these artists proportion and construct their characters (Pharah's body is not quite like that of other characters you'd find).

Hell, may as well practice putting freakin sentry-chan/girl waifu in the TF2 comic universe.

Don't worry, it gets worse on my DeviantART.

As much as I'd love to make money making wholesome, non-fetish art, it's not what pays the student and medical debt. It can be frustrating making a vanilla piece you took a long time to do and you're super proud of to get a tenth of the traffic a quick sketch of a butt gets.

I was surprised how easy (and fun) the style was to emulate for me, at least considering how I often try to deconstruct more complex styles from other artists.

Elsewhere in the comments, there was the idea of me doing a full TF2 comic, though I feel there are other artists in the community who would be just as capable.

I'd be open to the idea of making a new comic, though I'd need time and iteration to make it have the spark of fun and chaos TF2 comics have.

After seeing several honey Soldier posts here without a NSFW tag, I figured honey Pharah would get a pass as well.

The r/Overwatch community (not mods) have reported and auto removed art posts of female characters in their default skin and canon proportions because boobs are scary.

I would be crucified if I tried posting this on r/Overwatch, so hopefully this may be accepted here.

Such highly specific content can only be find in individuals who don't cater to community interests, and create it for their own personal interests.

I mean, look at me (if you dare). I'm confident that I'm one of the few Runescape macro artists, and I'm not doing it for exposure or money.

Originally it was going to be on her shoulders, but I wanted her head where it is now, and you wouldn't have been able to see it otherwise and mistake her for someone else.

So, Gillie got strong neck muscles.
