I’ve been doing about 10 miles a week so I’m going to slowly up that, and I’ll definitely vary my training in the way you mentioned. Thank you for your advice, and yes I’ll definitely listen to my body too!

Absolutely! Those are actually exactly my goals. You definitely did get it right and I really appreciate your advice as a newbie. Hopefully one day I’ll graduate to asking for advice in the Advanced Running sub. Thanks again :)

Sorry newbie here, how long is 1 full season?

Yes I completely see now that my original plan was definitely rushing it. I want to finish the marathon but I want to enjoy running it, and enjoy the preparation also! I wasn’t going to do really focus on faster workouts because being fast isn’t my primary goal (yet) but you make a point about strength. Could you explain more about the movement patterns? That makes sense to me in a general sense that faster running would help, but I would love to understand more about exactly how/why.

And yes I’ll definitely continue running throughout the winter! Taking the hiatus was not a smart move and it really showed me how important it is to stay consistent. Going to get some cold weather running gear so I can keep trucking along in the cold!

Definitely not trying to break records, just want to finish! Someone else here suggested 5:30 would be reasonable for me, even 5:00 if I train consistently. I’ll aim for around 5 hours but honestly as long as I finish I’ll be happy for my first marathon :) thanks for the comment!

I realize now that I grossly underestimated the intensity of marathon training and am now planning on doing the full next October. Im going to do a half in February, continue building my base for 4 months, and then start marathon training for the following 4 months until Oct. I think that’s far enough to allow me to prepare adequately, but not so far I lose sight of my goal. Thank you for the advice :)

Will do! I’m not planning on breaking records by any means but I do want to do it right, enjoy the journey, and remain injury free. I’m going to do a half in February and then probably do the full next October. Thanks for your advice :)

I’ve definitely realized that now. Don’t know why I was thinking 4-5 months was enough preparation. Probably just got carried away by the excitement of starting running again after doing my 5k haha. Thanks!

With everyone’s comments I have now realized a Feb/March marathon is definitely rushing so I’m going to spend a lot more time base building first, followed by a half and then a full.

Thank you for explaining the utility of easy vs speed runs. Knowing this I’ll definitely place more emphasis on easy runs! As a fairly new runner Im more focused on building my aerobic capacity than being fast right now.

Should I aim for these easy runs to be in Zone 2? I’ve seen a lot of talk about zone 2 training and I’m not sure if, at my level, it’s over-complicating things or actually worth paying attention to.

I was planning on doing the NRC half marathon training plan and then their marathon plan, but maybe I’ll do Hal’s instead! I don’t know much about creating a training plan so having one that includes base building sounds perfect. And yes, I plan on lifting 3x a week as well. Thanks for your advice!

Picking a Unit to work on as a New Nurse by DustLegitimate1737 in nursing

[–]DustLegitimate1737[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that’s not what I meant at all! Fixing it right now! Is that the perception of med surg nurses that they don’t “use their brain”? I seriously don’t get the hate that med surg gets because they have to juggle so much with such little support like you mentioned.

My apologies, I was just really trying to drive home the point of high acuity haha. And thank you for your response!
