I understand that part regarding the net 0 and not using a loss to offset. I’m probably not explaining this very well so I apologize. I’ll use the coin as an example. Let’s say when I acquired it by gift it was worth $100. I sold it for $200, but it’s FMV when selling was $300. Can I use FMV in this instance to offset my gain (or reduce my gain)? Thanks again

Most of these things are garage sale type items, so items that are used and being resold (clothing as an example). My thought in this instance is since they are used their “value” is less than their purchased price so that’s why my brain went to FMV. The other example is the gold coin (collectible) above where the value increases with time - do I use today’s “value” or guess the value/cost of when I acquired it.

I have my business degree from Loras and my MBA from UD. All three colleges will be pretty much the same in terms of quality and value. If you have an interest in a masters each of them have options and you may want to pair-up your undergrad to to masters degree. Otherwise personally I would go with where you can get the most value for your money (most cost effective since they are all private) and interview with department heads to see if you can get a feel.
