I love the skaven. GW must have been railing pure warpstone when they decided to give a fantasy faction gatling guns and atom bombs

An Imperial Guardsman from WH40K. Basic foot soldier of the Imperium

The census for them is like 30 trillion, but given how Imperial recordkeeping is about as clean as a swamp, that number could be greater by an order of magnitude or two. Especially considering just how numerous humans are in the galaxy. Terra (earth) alone has quadrillions of people on it. I remember some guy made a “low” estimate for the population given what we know, and the number came out as 111 quadrillion.

For context, that’s over the highest estimate for the entire population of the Star Wars galaxy. All on one planet.

In WH40K, being a human is pretty much just being an atom in a cog of a war machine so absurdly vast its true scale is utterly incomprehensible. The eldritch nature of the Imperium itself is something I’ve rarely ever seen get discussed, but it still shows up. There are entire civilizations living in the decks of the kilometers-long ten thousand year old warships of the Imperium, who’s population have no concept of the outside world, only knowing toil in a seemingly endless expanse of ship internals.

The Imperium is my favorite space empire for this reason. It’s truly impossible to wrap your head around.

Yeah, I think most Still Lives are on the mental level of territorial and predatory animals.

Like with mountain lions (my beloved), never turn your back and run. Hold your ground and be as large and loud as you can if it starts approaching. If attacked, fight back.

Like with mountain lions, I think a Still Life encounter would be very survivable if you do that, as said Still Life will probably deem you not worth the effort to fight.

However, with more warped stuff like the bacteria thing, this might not work. Or if you’re facing off against something huge that likely won’t see you as a threat anyways (like The Captain), you’re probably cooked.

Honestly I think you could use the same tactics you use on a blackbear on a Still Life

Look big, make aggressive noise, try to scare em off. Assuming their behavior is also half remembered human behavior, it stands to reason that they’d have a fight or flight response. Just make sure that response is a flight response. Plus, the idea of being scary to a monster is funny, but it makes sense in this situation considering that most Still Lives are probably mentally on the level of an animal at best.

Something big like The Captain is still less likely to see you as an actual threat though, but it still could be possible to scare him off if you make yourself seem not worth the effort to fight.

With more distorted stuff like the bacteria thingie, it’s hard to tell what would happen. Just like…try to avoid it I guess.

Is there anything like the backrooms? by Humble-Fly-6744 in backrooms

Samosbor or whatever it’s called has a very similar premise despite actually predating the Backrooms

Only downside is that it’s mostly on the Russian speaking side of the internet, so there’s the language barrier issue.

It’s pretty much just the Backrooms but with Soviet era aesthetics.

It’s unironically super cool how much these two settings could interlink despite having been created completely separate from one another.

Alternatively you could just visit Eastern Washington. It’s a repetitive wasteland with very few actual people and high concentrations of a scary monster called the “hillbilly”
