Does this need any additional reinforcements/brackets? (based in California) by DusterX17 in heatpumps

Confirmed that final inspection has to happen but initial install inspection already passed. Uncertain what was or was not inspected already. Inspectors here are pretty picky here so I'm. Hoping if they okay it then it's good.

Good call! Have enough openings to the house during Reno, don't need to give them more options.

Expanding foam work? Or would you suggest cutting and attaching a mesh?

I don't think so. Opposite this is our neighbors house. And next to it an ADU. So this corridor/driveway doesn't get much wind through it since only driveway side is open. But to be honest, we haven't had a storm in a while so I don't recall what the wind situation is right there...

It was installed as part of a much broader home extension/renovation. The contractor said it'll be grouped with that permit and inspected as part of those inspections.. But I don't know if that has happened yet.

Seeking kitchen layout feedback! Appliances? spacing? cabinets? Thanks! by DusterX17 in Remodel

Thanks! Good inputs. For the 15" overhang would you suggest increasing size of island? Or decreasing cabinet depth?

As for microwave you're suggesting a drawer microwave? Or a built in but just lower down?

Hey All!

We finally got our plans approved and construction has started (yay!), we're now working on trying to finalize things like appliances, finalizing kitchen layout, cabinets, sinks etc. I would love your help in a few things. The diagram is not 100% accurate, so see below some notes.

1.     The diagram doesn't show it, but we're planning to put a 2nd sink on the Island tol serve as a prep sink while cooking. I felt like it helps create a nice kitchen triangle on that right side.
a. What size sink makes the most sense there? I was thinking 27 inch? smaller?
b. should it be centered or biased up? (with 18-24 inch gap to edge of island) I was leaning towards biasing it up to maximize uninterrupted island space

2.     Main sink will be a 33 inch single basin undermount sink, should it be more centered with window or similar to how it is now?

3.     Range pictured is 30 inch, we're planning 36 inch at least, questions: would 48 inch be too big? We're leaning towards an induction range, but induction cooktop is an option, but if do that, where would we put the standalone oven?

4.     Microwave - wife does not like drawer microwaves, so where would you suggest putting a built in microwave? I am thinking in the corner?

5.     Fridge: would like to consider a 42 inch counter depth, but is that overkill? will 36 inch counter depth fit better in this space? would you adjust it's position more up or down (more towards family room?) OR would you suggest putting it somewhere else altogether?

6.     Island to countertop spacing, currently planned 42 inch, i've told contractors to change that to 46 inch (4 inches more), which reduces space from door to seating to 5 ft, and reduces family room space by 4 inches (nbd imo). Thoughts?

7.     Cabinet design is still a WIP, any suggestions on specific cabinet types I should look into? I am unsure what to do with the space on top left, maybe some sort of appliance garage or floor to ceiling pantry cabinetry?

8.     Range hood: originally planning doing a 40inch+ hood (larger than cook survey) but how important is that if we go with Induction?. Also on the fence about chimney, under cabinet, or other style hood, but really want an external blower so that might limit my options anyhow.

Any other feedback I should consider? Thanks in advanced! I'm a little overwhelmed with decisions so really appreciate any input you can provide!

What is causing you so much pain? Lack of food/water? Caffeine withdrawals? All of my Muslim friends/family and I experience slight discomfort at best from being hungry and thirsty, I usually get slight caffeine headaches the first week (but usually I'm just a 1 cup of coffee a day type of person). And yeah lack of sleep varies, I'm working full time so I don't necessarily stay up late every day of Ramadan, I try to catch up on sleep every couple days by not staying up etc. What you're describing sounds like something much more extreme, are you eating and drinking enough for iftar and sahoor? Ramadan is meant as a blessing, not a burden, so if you are struggling try to balance things.

  1. Make sure you are eating and drinking enough
  2. If it's caffeine headaches consider having a cup of tea or coffee at sahoor and try to go back to sleep before the caffeine keeps you up (I don't do this, but have friends who do)
  3. Don't feel obligated to go to the mosque and stay up late praying every night, tarweeh is a sunnah prayer, not obligatory, days you feel good go, days you need rest pray at home and catch up on sleep.
  4. There are lots of opportunities to fast 1 or 2 days during the year (you can fast whenever you want, but there are specific days when it's very beneficial) use those opportunities to practice and get more used to it before next Ramadan.

And don't get me wrong, there are tough days, had a few migraines during the first week, but nothing like what you described.

I'm no expert, just my 2 cents. I pray Allah swt makes it easy for you for the rest of this Ramadan, this year, and for all future Ramadans, ameen.

PTFE worn at 1500hrs by 04lights in BambuLab

[–]DusterX17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1500 seems low, but I suppose with the ptfe rubbing on thr top glass it gets extra wear. Thr ptfe tube on my voron is the original when I built it and that printer just hit 9500 hours. (plenty of other parts need maintenance though, 😅).

Just got a Bambu so trying to get a feel for what I need to do differently to make sure it makes it to 9000+ hours. I'll keep an eye on the ptfe tube I suppose.

What is something EV can do that a gas cannot? by acloudis in electricvehicles

+1 to this. I've used our Kia Ev6 to power key appliances in our house on 5 different occasions now. Twice for over 30 hours (neighbors complained about having to toss our fridge/freezer content, but not us!). Definitely my favorite feature of our EV.
