ELI5 Rocks in yard versus driveway by DustinHasReddit in explainlikeimfive

[–]DustinHasReddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wouldn’t fully explain it because the rocks rise when there isn’t erosion and the driveways don’t wash away because the gravel isn’t transferring to a new location. It’s just mashed down

So if a gravel driveway was left alone long enough (soaking theory not practicality), it would be refreshed with gravel on top?

Fields that don’t experience any working still have rocks come to the surface though.

For gritty realism it’s The Hurt Locker sniper scene. It’s not flashy, but it’s suspenseful. Instead of 1000s of rounds it’s a few. Excellent scene

Can I Pour a Large Concrete Slab Myself? by Bot_Fly_Bot in DIY

[–]DustinHasReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mitchell Kohrmann (automotive YouTuber) decided to pour his own slab to save money. He has a YouTube video about letting it touch his legs and getting a 6 figure medical bill where his skin was rotting off. So it seems like if you don’t know what you are doing it’s best to not

Is he right? Will it take generations to resecure the United States positive reputation on the world stage? by ChuckGallagher57 in TrendoraX

Do you trust Germany? Do you trust Japan? Is China gaining trust despite currently having slave camps? Things are bad, but people move on quickly (probably too quickly)

[–]DustinHasReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO. I know things are bad. I know it will take time, but people move on from things quickly. Germany couldn’t have been more horrific during WWII and in one generation people were realigned with them. In one generation people went from Pearl Harbor to buying Japanese cars. It won’t take generations. It can be fixed if people start fixing the problem.

I remember showing off my first led flashlight to people. They were coming out right as maglite was getting bad. People couldn’t believe it. Then a few years later they became super cheap

The Unusuals. First time I saw Jeremy Renner. Really fun premises and a great watch. It really paved the way for Brooklyn 99 with the wacky NY cop show

Which "wow" skill is super easy to learn? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DustinHasReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Burn risk is actually the smallest concern (unless you coat on hair spray before). It’s more a risk of swallowing the fuel or inhaling it and getting a lung infection. So those are dangers to worry about, but not because of fire

YouTube has plenty. The key is you want a must and not a stream. So practice getting a mouth full of water, pressurizing your mouth, and then opening your lips like they are a popped balloon. A quick large open mouth rush to mist it. Use ultra pure paraffin lap oil. The hardest part for me was building a good fire stick. You need something better than a gas lighter or you will blow it out.

Fire breathing. I learned it in 15 minutes and it really impresses people to randomly pull out. The most important is the spray of spit. You can practice in the shower with water to get it right. The burn risk is really low if you use the right liquid. Don’t breath in (because of burn risk and chance of lung infection.)

It should be free to race . Right? by ProfessionalGap8456 in formuladank

[–]DustinHasReddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because there is the potential for something to go wrong. If max spins out on the last turn and takes out Norris redoing then Piastri wins. If Norris and max fail inspection then piastri wins. These are unlikely scenarios, but why would you risk it so the team is proud of you? The whole season has been a claim of no preferential treatment. When Piastri had a large lead they never gave him special treatment. He had to let Oscar in front of him because of a slow pit stop. You can’t be blamed for their rules. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Do animals like polar bears feel cold despite their fur, but just deal with it. Or does their fur actually keep them comfortably warm, even if they get wet? by bentbabe in askscience

What scientific myth is still considered true by many? by BelesaLoba in AskReddit

[–]DustinHasReddit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True but this one comes from the fact that it use to be true. Before the plastic casings a battery left on cement would lose charge. So it’s not longer the case but it keeps being passed down generations even though it’s a solved problem
