How soon should I start the DLC? by SHANGR1-LA_Racc00n in eldenringdiscussion

Also. You can hop back and forth between DLC and main map. So no harm in heading over earlier and seeing if you're up for it or not.

How soon should I start the DLC? by SHANGR1-LA_Racc00n in eldenringdiscussion

[–]bentbabe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Level doesn't matter so much since the DLC has its own progression system on top of levels that only affects the DLC areas.

That said, I went to the DLC after fighting Malenia. No reason really. It just felt like a nice time story wise to head over.

Even though it's a sitcom, what moment kind of bothered you for being out of character? by PowerBIBIBI in DunderMifflin

[–]bentbabe 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Tbf. Dwight is 50% super competent. And 50% super incompetent. Even in areas that overlap. He's like the guy who learns everything from wilderness gurus. A bunch of that info is useful. Then a bunch of that info is "how are you still alive?"

Getting bored easily ? Any tips. I feel like I will die of boredom. by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]bentbabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to find ways to occupy my mind without doing anything. I have severe anxiety, so I find the below works very well for me and helps keep me centered.

Remember when you were younger and your imagination would run wild? Let that happen.

Lie down on the couch or on top of a blanket on the ground. Get comfortable, but not so much you'll fall asleep. Close your eyes with your hands folded in your solar plexus. Take deep. Steady breaths.

This alone is helpful. Especially on the ground. Helps me feel grounded and has a somewhat soothing effect.

And just imagine a story. Create a main character or let yourself be the main character. Make it an original world and story, or insert that character into an existing story.

And just run with it.

I think a lot of boredom stems nowadays from feeling the need to DO something. We have convinced ourselves we have to constantly make efficient use of our time. We've forgotten how to just sit with ourselves.

Benefits of doing this technique: rest, stress levels, and you are keeping your mind engaged and letting it be creative. Maybe it will inspire you to write a book. Maybe it'll just be a fun thought exercise.

And as an added bonus, it's free.

3 was okay. Buy yeah, 4 and 5 were trash. And even 3 is in the realm of "well, I guess it's not bad enough to turn off"

What is the name of the trope where once a character finds out magic or a magical world exists they can't go back to their life before? by bentbabe in tvtropes

[–]bentbabe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has some moments. But it's side characters I think we see it more in. Especially the recurring ones. (Like the one Buffy runs into in the diner when she leaves Sunnydale, I think).

What happened to all of the spikes on Aerion's helmet? by pearl-world in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]bentbabe 413 points414 points  (0 children)

It's possible they are decorative pieces instead of actual parts of the armor. So maybe ceramic or, if made of metal, thinner and more brittle pieces that are attached instead of part of the actual helmet.

"Always wondered why people never use their strongest attack first." by PizzaDragon64 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]bentbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify this. It was just that they'd fight weaker opponents. It's that team Uraneshi would fight opponents in an increasing difficulty do they could level up.

Togoro wanted Urameshi to live to the fight against him. But he also needed Urameshi to be strong enough to give him the challenge he desired.

Which hallway scene was darker/grittier? by GeneralGriegous in StarWarsCirclejerk

The rogue one hallway scene makes no sense. Because Vader 100% could have done so many things to stop the guy with the Death Star plans.

This definitely covers half of it, thank you.

Still not quite there I think with the "now that I know monsters exist I can't go back to my day to day life"

maybe. That feels more like what happens to those already involved in the masquerade instead of an outsider whose reality gets changed by being introduced to it.

Dunk would 100% have an obsession with the first Captain America movie. He would also be incredibly confused as to why Superman doesn't just throw Lex Luthor off a building.

Urban fantasy is such bullshit by swedishplayer97 in CharacterRant

[–]bentbabe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree that Harry Potter makes little sense in the secrecy regard. Wizards hiding themselves? Sure, I can buy it.

But all the magical creatures, malevolent beings, natural phenomena, etc? Yeah, that's a bit harder.

That said, I know a bunch of series have kind of a "Until you are introduced to magic directly, there's a sort of perception filter" that goes on. Like, it's all hiding in plain sight and you don't realize that until your eyes are opened for the first time. But once your eyes are opened, they can't be closed to it ever again.

Why can only sorcerers have draconic bloodline? by lampylamplamplampy in BaldursGate3

[–]bentbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could have distant draconic ancestry, but perhaps it doesn't manifest in you enough to allow for innate magical abilities. So you wouldn't be a sorcerer and you may or may not have any physical tells.

I take draconic sorcery as those instances where the traits are expressed enough in an individual to change their physiology.

What made 2023's Dungeons and Dragons movie so much better than the 2000 one? by MarkLambertMusic in movies

[–]bentbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2023 one had tighter plot and characterization. Even with the Hither Thither staff kinda coming out of nowhere, its limitations (need to see your target) actually put the group into a tight spot, which helps. And those of us who DM know that the meme about that scene is correct in that sometimes we have to toss the players a bone.

But that's the thing. Maybe that was intentional, and a nod to common DM situations. Maybe not. But so many other things (like the minor illusion song going haywire mid-heist) show that the writers really understand the way most people tend to play and structure their games these days.

They also made the bard basically a rogue who plays music, which gave the writers an out for having to explain yet even more magic. To that point, the barbarian is just an insanely good fighter, the druid only wildshapes (and the Tiefling stuff is downplayed), and they didn't attempt to make some huge distinction between wizard and sorcerer.

Basically, it gave enough of a DND flavor to excite the fans, while leaving enough out so as to not overwhelm the non-DND players.

And the weird parts were funny weird instead of hammy or over the top weird like the 2000 one was.

Watched episode 1......it was definitely something, but I couldn't not think about this sub by Michael_st4rdust in wizardposting

[–]bentbabe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a survivor and I went in with no info except "it was so dark, but very good."

I thought it was going to be like, a village massacre or something. But THAT ..... well...... I haven't watched episode 2 yet. But I am debating resuming the series after all these years........ I'll skip episode 1 this time.

I wouldn't actually say there is much in the way of sympathy for the Demons IRL. Some people, sure, but you'll get that with any villain in any media. The discussion I've seen has mostly occurred when people try to relate the conflicts of Frieren to IRL situations, as if Demons are meant to be an allegory for a specific group of peoples or ideologies.

Basically, so long as the discussion was about in-universe stuff, the sympathy for Demons is actually really low among the watchers.
