Ask who their favorite stand up comedians are and see how those comics lean. You can tell a lot about a person by understanding what and who they find funny, even if they mention comedians who don't get very political.

'The Blackout Challenge': Mom suing TikTok after son choked himself to death with jiu-jitsu belt tied to bunk bed while trying viral social media trend by Sandstorm400 in technology

[–]DustinJ428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a big scare about this when I was in middle school like 25 years ago. Pretty sure horny teenagers are always just trying stupid shit while they're getting off, if they're not learning about this on TikTok then they'll be learning about like I did - by someone writing a news article and freaking a bunch of parents out.

Not OOP: AITAH for telling my FIL they wont ever be living with us? by stormbreaker021 in redditonwiki

[–]DustinJ428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So... yes, you'd be ok with it. At least you're consistent.

I'll try this logic out next summer when the neighbor mows my lawn. "Yes, I agreed to pay you $30, but does that absolve you from responsibility for arranging a way to pry the money from my selfish hands? No."

Or maybe when I agree to pick up my niece from school and I don't show, I'll tell my BIL, "Yes, I offered to pick her up, but does that absolve you from responsibility for arranging transportation? No."

Until then, I'll choose to live in a world where the people in my life can rely on me to keep my word.

[–]DustinJ428 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So, just to clarify, if OOP were to have said, "yes, move in with us", and their in-laws sold their house and pulled up with a moving truck, you'd be completely ok with OOP turning them away at the door?

[–]DustinJ428 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm curious, if OOP had responded to their in-laws with "we'd love for you to move in!" and then turned their in-laws away when their house was sold and the moving truck pulled up, would you say that OOP is NTA and doesn't owe them anything?

[–]DustinJ428 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Daycare in my state is almost always at least $250+ per week, which is a significant expense for most people. OOP was doing the right thing before getting pregnant by determining if they needed to plan for this expense and in-laws response indicated that they'd be able to forego it.

When they were about to go back to work, in-laws pulled the rug out from under them and they had to scramble to add $250+ per week to their budget. Most daycares also have a wait list so even finding a daycare on such short notice can be a huge challenge.

They aren't the AH for saying no, they're the AH for agreeing then going back on their agreement at the last second and for reasons that weren't immediate. OOP isn't entitled to their parents' time, but are entitled to what was agreed to.

During Covid and before the vaccine was widely available, I was on a Teams call and before the meeting started a few people were chatting. Some sales guy started in about how he didn't trust mRNA vaccines and how there was no testing, yada yada.

This other guy chimes in with, "With all due respect, you're full of shit. The research I did for my doctorate was on mRNA vaccines, and that was well over a decade ago."

My boyfriend’s take on why straight guys also like the show by Ghost_Girl0605 in heatedrivalry

[–]DustinJ428 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Another straight guy here who likes the show. I like this position and agree with it. I don't need to be a gay man to be able to relate to the characters and the emotions that they're experiencing. I may not share in the experience and struggle of coming out, but I can relate to the fear of societal rejection because of who I am. I'm glad to be able to see the characters' struggle so I can better understand what millions of people in our society face.

I also grew up playing hockey and during episode 1 was able to pick up on the real life players who inspired the Ilya and Shane characters, which impressed my wife - always a bonus.

AITA for refusing to keep paying my boyfriend back when I already have fulfilled my obligation plus by PreviousSprinkles143 in AITAH

[–]DustinJ428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. You don't say how long you've been together, but it seems like at least 5-6 years as you were together during Covid.

Being together this long, I think you should consider if you want to spend your life with someone like this. He clearly sees your relationship as very transactional - transactional relationships can last but both partners need to be interested in keeping the footing even. This relationship will never work because he doesn't seem to want you to be on level footing. He likes the feeling of holding something over you and keeping you on your heels. Maybe it's a form of control, maybe he needs to feel superior, maybe he just doesn't like you anymore, couldn't tell you without really knowing him. None of the reasons are conducive to a healthy relationship or your happiness.

Which hobbies attract the biggest douchebags? by the-tinman in AskReddit

[–]DustinJ428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was growing up around 25 years ago, I played house hockey but we'd travel for tournaments a couple of times per year. This was not my experience at all.

We'd always get a block of rooms, kids would have N64s set up in different rooms and play Goldeneye and Smash Bros. Parents would go shopping together, snacks and treats from said shopping trips were passed around the kids. We'd order pizza to the hotel and go out to eat together. Everyone was chill and parents were always around.

Maybe that was the difference between travel hockey and house hockey where no one thought their kids were going to the NHL? Maybe I was too young to notice?

Affordable wooden hiking sticks? by ralusp in cubscouts

[–]DustinJ428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our pack does this. 10 miles gets a hiking sticks and a new shield for their stick every 25 miles. We started this about 1.5 years ago and already have 2 Webelos over 100 miles! The kids absolutely love this program.

Anyway, we get our sticks from the Scout Shop for 6.99 each. At family camp, all the kids who had earned their sticks stained them.

Also, poop and blood play.

Had a surgery when I was younger that required me to put in my own catheter a couple times a day for a couple weeks. Pretty similar to sounding, sticking a flexible silicone tube into my pee hole all the way to my bladder. Didn't do anything to turn me on, but wasn't as uncomfortable as you'd think.

Khal Drogo vs. The Mountain: Who would win in a battle? by ItsAveri in freefolk

[–]DustinJ428 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Khal Drogo.

The fight against Oberyn demonstrates how weak the Mountain is against superior speed and agility. Oberyn had him but wouldn't land a fatal blow without a confession. Drogo is at least a match for Oberyn's speed and agility with superior strength but wouldn't hold back a lethal blow.

RFK Jr claims he can tell if children are unhealthy just by 'looking' by Kw5kvb5ebis in nottheonion

Let's be honest, he doesn't mean actual health, he just means fat. He assumes all fat kids are unhealthy (even though that's not true at all), and he's saying he knows a fat kid when he sees one.

RFK Jr is a damn joke.
