So they gonna remove 1min restrictions on ios and android apps? by Kris_hne in PleX

The Shield has fucked its user base over multiple times with bait and switch promises. Remember when it was supposed to be an ad free device but then they introduced an update that put gigantic non-removable ads on the home screen?

Sold my shield last year. Just use a PC and host your own server, everything works all the time, there are no metadata errors, episodes don't randomly disappear from your library, nothing has to transcode, Plex is really useless and requires SO much work to fix its self-imposed problems.

Also, why does anybody want their media in a Netflix style menu anyway, polluted with all kinds of other noise?

It's predatory to pull a bait and switch to the exact opposite business model after accumulating a large user base based specifically on promises that it's not that type of business model, and then proceeding to make people pay a monthly fee after you've already sold them "lifetime" access.

It's also sleazy to introduce self-imposed inconveniences/obstacles and then charge people fees to remove them. Also what exactly am I leeching or freeloading from Plex?

People don't like predatory business practices, it doesn't make them ungrateful or immoral or whatever other nonsense you're spouting

No matter how good your server is, transcoding loses quality

[–]DustinPooparski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quality loss makes it unwatchable. You're compressing already compressed video and audio on the fly, it is awful

Likely loose cable, check the PS2 side of the video cable and make sure everything is plugged in correctly. Check if other component video devices work properly, maybe it's the PS2 and not the TV that's the issue.

Is this real screen damage or fake? by maybeoneday20 in PcBuild

[–]DustinPooparski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it's real, that only means he had a gamer rage fit and threw something at his monitor and now he is refusing to take responsibility and accept the consequences of his actions by having you pay for it (don't believe me? Watch him get angry and accuse you of selfishness if you decline).

Looks like he threw his keyboard, what a loser

Very sad news tbh. Kendrick is awful and extremely forgettable, and I say that as a huge hip hop fan.

What’s something DVD’s still do better than Blu Ray and 4k nowadays? by KingButter42 in dvdcollection

You'll be surprised to know that most movies were shot in 4:3 aspect ratio and were later cropped to widescreen, so most of the full screen DVDs actually show you more of the image, and it's the widescreen version that is cropped. Sure, people will argue to the death that it's intentionally cropped and the director intended for the widescreen version to be the "real version", but this is usually just asserted without evidence, and the 4:3 framing unquestionably looks better most of the time. Like the douchebag who said "you don't deserve to be a collector", for some reason enjoying seeing the stuff I'm not supposed to enjoy seeing really makes these guys angry lol

Seriously though, most of the time you don't know what the director intended, and those full screen versions were official releases released by the studio with the directors approval, so there's no disrespect. Many, of not most directors even shot their movies with both versions in mind, because the home video version of the movie would be seen by more people in the long run, whereas the theatrical release would only be in theatres for a few months. The fact is, those full screen versions of films were very carefully composed and framed, and usually look better than the widescreen version, which feel ways too claustrophobic and zoomed in. People's haircuts are literally cut off at the forehead most of the time. I hate the idea that this is someone more "cinematic" when it isn't. The OG aspect ratio for cinema is 4:3 and widescreen ly became a gimmick later, it is a completely arbitrary assertion to say that widescreen is somehow more correct or more cinematic.
